TARR Mk3 Pro & Mk4 Pro

Post by Tankbear »

This week we start stocking the TARR MK3 Pro and TARR Mk4 Pro. These two new products are fully proportional, so will work in any tank including Tamiya’s

Image

The MK3 Pro is basically same construction as the MK1 (metal) but has an additional control board to proportionally control the fan speed to the motor speed.

The MK4 Pro is basically same construction as the MK2 (plastic) but has an additional control board to proportionally control the fan speed to the motor speed.

No instructions are included so I have detailed installation here (based on Heng Long installation)

1) Plug the 2 pin plug into the MFU smoke output port
2) First pair of red/black cables connects to one motor (red to red, black to black)
3) Second pair of red/black cables connects to other motor (red to red, black to black)

For tank electronics without switched smoker output. Step 1 above, need to remove the 2 pin plug and connect to the battery supply via a switch (not included)

For those of us using your IBU2 boards this won't work, basiclly no point cause ours is already proportional correct?

Do you carry the MKI and MKII's for us IBU2 users?

Yes that’s correct IBU2 & 3 already converts the output to proportional so Mk1 & 2 are sufficient.

I carry the full range of Mk1 to 4 here

Stock should be in the next day or two.

One of the MAD members showed me an interesting mod for this smoker. He wired the elements to a separate switch that had a live feed. This was the elements were always on but could be turned off. When the IBU reved up the fan, you get a great plume of smoke if though the engine had reved up. Looked good. Going to try this mod myself.

Ian,

Can you confirm if the elements can take a 7.2v direct feed or does the board drop the voltage even when set at 100%?

Hi Mike,

Yes the element can take direct battery voltage. I have had I t running on a 4s Lipo (14.8v) during tests.

I ordered a tarr Mk3 pro thursday night & it arrived saturday morning,Thanks Ian,works brilliantly you can hear the fan pick up speed when the motors are engaged along with more smoke. The tarr 1 or 3 fits nicely behind the battery box on the the HL panzer III.

These wee units are brilliant, I've got the mk1 in the tiger and a choice of mk2 & mk4 on the way for my new Jagdtiger. If the reliability and quality are anything like the mk1 i'll be a happy chappy. I do prefer the metal version however, i've just learned that the 2 & 4 are mainly plastic in construction so i'll most probably be looking to replace the mk4 with a mk3, and the mk2 with a mk1, but thats just my personal preference.

What is the method for connecting it to a Tamiya now? At least on my original one it involved patching it into the battery cable.

Same need to cut off the 2 pin plug and connect to battery supply. Best to also add a switch to be able to turn the smoker on and off.

The other four wires goes to the motor terminals.
