Multiple tanks

Post by Bluelion »

Forgive me for asking what for you is probably obvious , but I would like to control multiple tanks from 1 handset , I have a heng long tiger 1 which I have spent time making it as authentic as I can , now I would like to purchase another tank and don't want to have to pick up a different hand set !
Any advice is gratefully accepted

If you have a crystal handset...just get the same crystal for the RXs ....if you have the 2.4 rigs...you have to get new RXs for each tank....the complicated part is only 1st and 2nd gens are compatible...and right now those units are hard to locate...as distributors are stocking the new 3rd gen which isn't the same and can't be bound to the 1st and 2nd

Hope that helps ...Good Luck

Alpha is correct when he says that 2nd generation RX's are hard to come by ,I have been asking suppliers & looking on ebay (even put it into the wanted section) but can only find them in Australia (postage is to much to England) or china which takes ages to arrive.

So far people are being gentle with you, :lolno:
If you want to run a number of tanks using one controller then you will have to spend money, :O
You will need a new 2,4 Digital Programmable Transmitter and one receiver for each Tank,
You will also need a new control board for each Tank although some people move the board from Tank to Tank which in my opinion misses the point. The HENG LONG Boards can be worked by a single transmitter, I believe RC Australia have a particular board on sale but whatever you choose there will be a lot of extra expense.
£50 Programmable transmitter.
£10/20 Receiver.(each)
£80/120 Control board (each)
In truth I absolutely would buy a new control board and new Transmitter and Receiver but not because I wanted to run a series of Tanks off of one transmitter but simply because the massive improvement in all round abilities of your Tank with a new board has to be seen and heard to be believed. Sorry for the bad news but at least you know what to save for and it won't be the Bentley!!! :/
Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Well...I've simplified my fleet by switching most of my tanks to 2.4 gig rig....I didn't really need to go through the expense of getting a new handset because for the most part...the handsets came with a tank...Two with my T34s and the new 3rd gen with my M1....I got a free 2nd gen when I ordered new RXs for some of my other tanks...it was during the transition of 1st to 2nd...The people I ordered it from sent me two 2nd gen RXs ...they worked with my 1st gen handset...but to my dismay...found that the volume and smoke feature had changed...at that time I was given the option of receiving two 1st gen RXs...or a new 2nd gen handset...I went for the handset and never looked back
The price is nominal for the HLs ....biggest investment you will make is in the RXs...A complete set with RX TX and bind button runs about 90 dollars US on the high side 75 on the low...additional RXs about 35...but this is only if you want 2.4 gig

Like I said...if your tanks are crystal units...just get the crystals ....pull the old ones that don't match out...and just replace them ...it's not hard transition and crystals run about 4-8 dollars a pair

You could contact Forgebear and get a more accurate estimate on either ;)

If it is confusing....as it could be lol....check the lower right hand corner of your handset....and the antenna....if your unit is crystal or 27mhz ...you will see a number on a small plastic piece that covers the crystal....I thing the numbers go from 1 to 12....all you have to do is get the crystal of that number ..open your tank ...pull out the crystal on the Mother board (you can't miss it ..it's the biggest thing sticking out and sometimes has a flag on it ) then replace it with the new one
The antenna is also a dead giveaway if it is the extendable type...it's a 27mhz unit ...if it's a stubby black thing...it's the 2.4 rig

The first Gen 2.4 looks exactly like a crystal unit with the exception of the antenna....also where the crystal usually goes ...where there is just a rectangular plastic cap covering the hole

The 2nd Gen 2.4 looks exactly like the fist Gen...with the exception being the right hand corner...where the plastic cap has been replaced with the remote smoke and volume controls

The 3rd Gen cannot be mistaken for any of them...it's a totally new more rounded design controls aside from the jockey sticks are positioned a little differently
Also ...on the 3rd gen RX or receiver there is a tiny wire protruding from where the smoker on/off switch used to go

Hope this helps....If you have any issues ...even where to get stuff...just ask ;)

For the most part...if you are in the UK ...Check out Forgebear...he should have what you need..top notch very fast and reliable ....if you are in the States...Ebay and Mato mart ;)

I'm looking to get another tank ( perhaps a t34) as I said I have a heng long tiger 1 and am looking to use just the one handset, is it best I buy another heng long or can I purchase any make. The one handset bit will come latter , I just need to know what is compatible with what I have or does it not matter .. Thanks for the input gentlemen!

One advantage to sticking with HL...if you did get their T34 it would come with a 2.4 rig already...Then all you would need to do is purchase more Receivers (RX) and change that out....If you got the Taigen...almost the same situation...but there might be issues with the connector on the hull ;)
