1/16 Tiger I "134", SS-Pz.Abt.102, Normandy 1944

Here is my first build on this Forum, a Taigen Late TIger I. Tiger "134" was Willi Fey's, who was one of the most successful tank commanders in Normandy. For example, on August 7 1944 he was credited with destroying 15 Shermans:

It's definitely has some nice scale features, and is mainly accurate for a late Tiger I. However...

The gap between the turret and hull has to go, since the real tank didn't have this, and instead had a ring on the hull around the base of the turret to protect it.
So...

This is a strange build for me, because since my priority in this build is scale accuracy over RC features, I'm going to be destroying a lot of the model in order to rebuild it. For example, most of the tools are molded on:

That zimmerit, while a nice feature, has to go as well, so after the first build session here's where I'm at:

Looks like someone is on the lookout!

I've been an admirer of "Tanks For The Memories" build log, and accordingly, my next modification is realigning the turret ring:

Meanwhile, I have a bunch of aftermarket goodies coming over, so stay tuned!

Hi, Your Royal Greatness, The last Tiger 1 that I built I bought a Taigen metal Hull and a new Heng Long body both from "FORGEBEAR" so I did not have to abrade the tools but just popped them off, As you say, a bit surprising that TAIGEN are still using moulded on tools.
shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...You Should know by now Wo1c....Flattery gets the Flatterer no where ;) (added note below) ....But yes it does surprise me that the tools are there ...I had thought Taigen adapted the "no molded on tool" concept awhile back...What I am also surprised at is the gap between the turret and the upper hull deck...Made me do a double take on my HL...it sits no were near as high as that

Spoiler: show

A quick question then guys.
Are we saying that the Taigen metal hulls are more accurate in this case?

I know that the old HL's need to reposition the turret. Is this still the case on the metal hull & turret?
I fancy doing a mid/late Tiger 1 at some point and have never really known the best option to start with.

I would like to go for the metal version but not if it needs a lot of work to get right.

BTW, I no longer class 1/16 as 'big scale'

I reccomend you have a go at 1/6 some time.

Cheers
