HL 2.4 Board Max Amps

Post by ninelong »

Just putting this out there as an FYI, since I haven't seen anything about it online yet.

I've heard that the old RX18 is good for around 6-8 amps with cooling. It seems that the 2.4 boards are more robust. I have a 2.4 ghz TK-RXMB 301 Rev. 5.1 made in 2014, and I've been running it with a pair of Mabuchi RS380 motors I got off ebay. According to the specs by Mabuchi, they each pull 4.4A at max efficiency, and 24A at stall. I've been running this setup for a little more than a month now, with two fans covering the board with no problems.

Last night I put in 5A fuses between the board and the motors, and just tonight they popped while doing a slow rotation in place. So I suppose since I've been doing this for more than a month now, perhaps it's safe to say that the newer boards are good for at least 10A. Or not, I might be wrong/lucky hehe. Any other experiences out there, or experts who care to chime in? :)

Edit: my motor specs are here: http://www.mabuchi-motor.co.jp/cgi-bin/ ... D=rs_380sh

Not sure about amps old vs new but I run Promax 480 motors and Tarr Smokers off of the old RX-18 no problem.
