Sturmtigers?

Post by Max-U52 »

Greetings, Men.

I've searched a couple of forums and can't find much on the Imex/Torro Sturmtiger. I just picked one up so I did a couple videos so guys can get a look. If anyone knows of any build threads I may have missed I'd appreciate it, but I'm only looking for builds on the Torro offering and I'm not real interested in any resin conversions. I'm considering turning it into a Jagdsturmtiger and I've found a bit of info on those but not much, so again, a little help would be welcomed. With this one I'm thinking about saving time by just swapping hull tops with one of my metal Tiger Ones, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a Sturmtiger built on the T1 early chassis or was it just the mid/late with the all steel road wheels?

Here's the short version video and if anyone wants to see the long version it's right next to this one at my youtube channel.

On the short video the battery in the camera died about 6 seconds before I would've said "See ya next time" so you didn't really miss anything when it got cut short.

Not quite a build thread. It has also been properly weathered by dgsselkirk so I can post some pictures as well. I also find these pictures online:

Max, only the initial prototype has the early/middle wheels/sprockets/idlers. All the production ones has the Late version of the wheels.

Notice that the prototype doesn't even have the balance ring on the front of the barrel.

Here is my version of the JadgStrumTiger. Taigen Late Tiger metal chassis, Asiatam all metal upper with the JadgStrumTiger roof plate and pig nose mantlet and the 88mm L51.

Max,
Apologies, I only have the resin Imperial version and I've not started on it yet. I do plan on using one of the Taigen late Tiger1 hulls for my build tho' Should be a direct fit.
regards,
Painless

Hi Max.

I have been lurking around in here for a while. So I have seen all of your posts. Nice tanks you have!

Back on topic: first of, I have the Torro Sturm Tiger myself. Metal bottom, PBS upper.

I have put on metal tracks, and upgraded the gearboxes. The White metal ones she came with were off center somewhere, so the drive sprockets made a wobbly movement.
I have put in an IBU base board, which Works great.

And I made a gearbox cover, as on yours the upper and the bottom leave quite a gap. Did not realise this until frist drive outdoors. I had so Much sand in the hull, luckilly no breakage of the gear tho.

Let me now if you should like to see pictures of my improvised gearbox cover, I Can send it to you.

Wish you alle the Best with her.

For research, have a look here: http://www.tiif.de/board.php?boardid=33 ... 3d13b1c2e6

Thanks a million, Guys, that is all great info. Painless, let me know when you start your Sturm. I'm not in a big hurry to start mine (got a ton of other stuff on my plate right now) so maybe if things work out we can do them at the same time and work together.

Michael, those are great looking tanks. I only hope I can turn out something that looks half that good. I'll be pesterin' ya later for more info on the servo set-up. I want to keep the airsoft so I might need a bit of assistance.

Bfrank, I'm glad you chimed in. Those are great links and even after just a quick skim I can see I'll learn a lot at both those links, and yes I'd like very much to see photos of your gearbox cover. Right now I just use sheet styrene to keep the grease from spattering everywhere and I'm always looking for new ways to make my tanks better. You can post the photos here or PM them to me, but I think it would be best to post them here so others can learn from them as well.
