Transducers?

Post by atcttge »

Anyone has tried using transducers for the RC tank? How was the sound quality?

I have just looked up transducers on Google and I still none the wiser. What would a transducer do, or what would you expect it to do? I am very curious about this sort of thing even though I haven't got a clue what it is?

Dan (yhr) did some tests on this. Go have a look on rcuniverse forum and search transducer (or PM Dan) he had some good success with them.

Speakers basically. Attach transducer to a material and the material vibrates and becomes a speaker, because there is no cone transducers can be small or flat.

I've played a little with some Visaton transducers and didn't get anything better than a cheap speaker would, but some people use them in RC planes to save weight with good effect so I'm sure it is possible but probably need to understand the science for maximum benefits.

Now I know what they are, I recall seeing them when they were invented a few decades ago, a guy was putting one on a table and the whole table surface became the speaker, the same with a glass window. Thanks for the info, mystery solved!

If the sound it makes isn't all that different from a cheap speaker, I guess the only benefit is the space savings, ja?
