pipe bending

Post by jarndice »

In my never ending efforts to get my Tunisian Tiger correct I have decided to bring the headlights down from the top of the body and halfway down the front Glacis, placing them beside the Radio operator/Machine gunner on one side and the Driver on the other,
Making the structure to hold the H/Lights was easy, Just 4 pieces of Plasticard per H/Light but the finest superglue in the world is not going to support the lights for long,
I have plenty of 3mm brass tube and the plan is to bend the tube through 180 degree's from under the H/Light straight up the front of the Glacis to the top then 90 degrees and a final kink into the hole left from the old H/Light position, This will both support the H/Lights and carry the cables.
I know that I will have to first anneal the tube and I know that "DUBRO" make a 1/8th tube bender BUT how acutely will I be able to make the necessary bends using a tube bender or am I missing a blindingly obvious solution.

I asked a similar question for 6mm hydraulic pipes.

Basically I ended up with a pipe bender. But if your only needing it for a wire conduit, why not put cable inside pipe bend pipe over a curved edge of suitable radius and it should work :/

Thanks Ian, I had thought of that, but the pipe will be acting not only as a conduit but it will be physically supporting the headlight, the plasticard is only going to be there for authenticity, It won't have any actual support function, and I honestly doubt I can bend a 3mm pipe through such an acute angle without it splitting.

Fill them with sand or similar you can then bend them around round objects without kinks
