Super Pershing questions

I nabbed a brand new HL Pershing off Ebay for £37 and free postage, so I am a happy bunny.

The plan is to turn it into a Super Pershing, I have always wanted to do one, but there are couple of questions lurking.

The welded on frontal armour is Panther style, but hooks around the lower hull, if anyone has done one, did you construct it with the armour as one piece...and does it still allow the upper hull to come off?

The drive sprocket isn't a Pershing one from what I can see of the scrapyard pics on the web, https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php? ... -pershing/ so does anyone know which sprocket they used? The pic on the site isn't clear enough, so if anyone knows which tank it came off, assuming it was a parts bin special. then I may be able to make an insert to convert the HL one. My other option is to get the metal tracks and sprocket, but that is designed for the Tamiya Pershing, which will require some engineering to make them fit.

The additional armour on the mantlet looks a lot closer to the turret than it would if it had simply been welded on the front of the existing mantlet. It may just be that the HL mantlet is oversized, but I am wondering whether they flattened the existing one before welding the plate on. From an armour point of view this doesn't seem logical to me, as they would be reducing the effectiveness of adding the lump that they cut off the Panther to do it, but hey, I am no tank designer??

Does anyone know the outside diameter of the barrel, and is the muzzle brake on the model on the above site likely to be the correct design?

It looks like there is a steel plate over the rear deck vents, but its difficult to tell from the pics...does anyone know if this mod was done?

I know that the turret roof will need some rework, will have to source a Sherman hatch for that I guess....

Check out PalePainter's Super Pershing here on the Board as well as EddyK's. Pale went into the research and there was a lot as I recall. Off the top of my head, from nuggets I ran across while I was redoing my Pershing last winter, the tank was stock as far as the hull went and the gun was factory installed. All the modifications we are used to seeing on this tank were made in the field and mostly involved up armoring the glacis and turret mantlet. Hope that is useful.

Different sprockets and tracks, impact make the correct t66 (I think) tracks.

It was those two builds that made me think again about doing one, just need to try get it as accurate as possible, but of course there was only one that made its way to Europe, and that is the one in the scrapyard...with very few pics to work with. It will be a nice winter project so hopefully it will be ready to battle for next year.

For the tracks and sprockets is better to buy T81 tracks from Mitosal or You can search eBay.com - there they was a little bit cheaper

Thanks for the link, the tracks are what I need, my only thought is that the metal sprockets are designed for the Tamiya shafts. To fit plastic HL sprockets onto Taigen shafts involves reaming out the recess, without some engineering equipment...I am wondering how I can make the metal sprockets fit the same way?

Just had a look at Bulldog sprockets and the outer is pretty much the same, it's the spoked inner that is different. I might try modifying some Bulldog sprockets to fit Pershing tracks. It wouldn't cost much to give it a go. The ones in the scrapyard pics don't appear to be spoked, though even by zooming in it is difficult to tell, they look more like they have a shallow recess in the hub center.
