Like to ask a question about Lipo batts!.I'm thinking of going over to Lipos now.I know it's got to be 7.4 volts and I will go up to 5000 Ah. So what type do I need??. And what's the best make? Any info will be greatly received. Brian...

What electronics do you have? Some have lipo battery protection built in like the IBU2 but if you're still on stock electronics you'll need a lipo low battery alarm.

Beyond that it's what ever battery you want to go with.

You find that most lipo batteries don't use the tamiya battery plug so first thing to consider is changing battery connector. I use deans but other types are used. But all means changing tank connectors and charger.

Whilst on charger you need a smart charger and charge in balance mode, it's the best for looking after your battery. Basically charges at full power to about 80% charge then decreases as it gets to full just like phones and laptops. Also as the name suggest balance monitors each cell and adjust the charge to each cell further protecting the battery.

Battery info all 7.4v are 2 cell also called 2s. Batteries come with c rating normally 20 to 40 this is how much current it will discharge so a 20c 5000mah battery can deliver 20 x 5a = 100a which is more than enough for tanks.

Yeah no point of going larger c rating and paying the premium as your tank won't need it. Plus in comparison Nimh batteries only manage something like 3c rating.

Also most lipo batteries the leads come off the top of the battery at one end rather than the end, so consider this as its tight in the Leo turret

Yea not much room to spare in the holder. I see they do hard cases as well as the shrink warped type. I'm not sure if they are any different in size!!. Checked on eBay and a lot of them give you an option of batt plugs. Brian...

I started with only hard case (protects if you drop it) but now use soft skin which are cheaper and slightly smaller.

Having seen the Leo turret space I think your better off soft case the hard case might just be too tall.

Yep I think your right Ian. Will go for the soft case. Been doing this Leo for soooo long now . I keep buying new tanks and it takes a back seat. So I'v cleared the hobby desk and start again. Waiting for some parts from AFV should be here tomorrow! I hope. Brian...
