Isn't that the version that could lift off it's own turret and leave it behind as a pill box?

I think you will find that that variant of the Panzer IV chassis was designed as a mobile artillery unit the " turret " had to be demounted in order to fire the gun. But it would still be a cool conversion. All the best for now

yes from what ive found out it could be used as a mobile gun, as artillery, so could fire while the turret was on the tank, but it could also pull off its own turret, and mount it on a platform that was also on the tank, that could be detached and deployed next to the tank. then the tank (with no turret) could be used for reconesence, or battlefeild recovery or troop transport ect ...
