Size of fuse

Post by MichaelC »

Hi all,

Thinking of putting in fuses for Clark board. Does anyone have an idea of the size of fuse I would need to make it run normally and will protect the board if I did some stupid wiring ? Clark's spec is 7.2v and 20A on the motors I believe.

Thanks !

Thanks ALPHA. I assummed you meant 0.5 amp - 15 amp ? I can just use a 15 amp then ? Why such a wide range though ?

Yeah that would be the range...If you are going 15 straight off ...make sure it will burn fast enough so you don't damage your equipment...that would be the reason for the wide range
From what I can find here...that pretty much means four fuses from .5 ...as the next one up is 5...then 10 then 15... .5 is what's found in most meters..they burn very fast...if that's what you want...then go that route...the downside is they are pretty sensitive...and go with the slightest surge ...I usually experiment...and for the most part found 15 to be a good median ...it doesn't burn too fast...and doesn't show stress after many many uses...which 5 and 10 might ;)

Perfect ALPHA. I am getting a box of them from 0.5 to 20 so I can start low and go from there. I don't run my tanks too hard so lower might be sufficient.

Michael Hi, Whereabouts, on or around the board were you thinking of putting the fuze?

There is a good chance the 20 will be overkill...might not blow at all ...but yeah...if that's how you can get them packaged ...can't hurt lol

I guess underkill is better than overkill. If it is overkill it won't do much to protect the board which is what I am aiming. I will put some 0.5 amp in see how soon I brunt them out while running the tank. I think someone was testing 5 amp and it was still popping when he was running it so I will see where my threshold is. Thanks !

0.5s burn super fast lol....I think you'll find 10 or 15s work well...it really depends on the load...the smoker will cause the most as it runs hot ...along with the motor draw...which fluctuates that's probably what will cause a surge ....My M1 has mild surges...might have to install one in it....everything is remote controlled...causing more fluctuations .....so sometimes at idle...it will "jump" on it's own....when I see that I always laugh a little and say...OOPs there's a jolt :haha:

Finally got all the bits together and started testing. With a Clark board, 3A seems to be okay with motors, speakers on the test bed. Will try to put it into a real tank with a TARR smoker and high intensity flash and see what the power draw is like . I guess the most would be firing and moving at the same time.

The fuse are 5x20mm blow glass tubes inline from the battery pos (+).

I am starting from a 2A and it blown almost right away with the motors. If the 3A blows it will be 5A.
