Relocation of HL Tiger I turret

Post by littletankman »

Hi Im new this site have been asked to post I have tryed to post this before ( if it worked please use this one)

I have moved the turret in my Heng Long Tiger I .The way I did it got from a guy in the States .Im not suggesting its the only or best way to do it , just the way I did . And after comparing it to a 1:16 line drawing it looks reaonably close . I also hace added the turret protection ring and thanks to Steiner I know now the way there fitted on . Please read all my post and ask any questions if your unsure I dont want loads of angry TigerI owners .

Moving mounting hole:
1: Remove the turret and all the electronics from the upper body,
2: mark a centre line along the length of the tank,
3: Mark out a square round the hole using the centre line , and leave plenty of room around the hole to fit strengthing later. Then mark a 10mm strip at the back of the square to the rear of the tank,
4: Place a piece of wood underneath the cut lines the best you can to support the body then cut along the lines with a sharp craft knife and a steel rule,
5: Glue strengthaning pieces of plastick so it overlaps the joins ( not to thick) then replace the square and the 10 mm strip . This time put the 10mm strip at the front , glue these in but keep the center line in line through all the pieces,
6: Fill in all the gaps , I used milliput and then smooth down .

Altering turret:
1: Remove the turret rotation cog,
2: Take the turret apart,
3: Cut the original ring of the bottom of the turret (see step no. 5 before you do this !),
4: Cut a piece of thin plastic the same diameter as the round on the bottom of the turret,
5: I glued a spare Pz III turret ring , just the ring to the centre of this but you may be able to use the Tiger I ring or make one ? then screw the turret rotation cog to this and mark out the piece in the middle and cut it out so the main gun will elevate I had to file some out till the gun elevated correctly.
6: Then glue the thin plastic and turret ring to the bottom of the turret base . I counter sunk were you need to screw through the bottom of the turret to screw it together in two places,
7: Then drill four holes through the hole esembly and bolt together . I did this to strengthen the join when the turret rotates,
8: Place this on the tank , the turret ring should sit flush with the underside lip of the hole you may have to reduce the ring to fit . The turret rotation cog mounting sprues may wont reducing , then mount the turret rotation cog . I had to reduce the depth of this so it held the turret on propaly , but not to much else the turret rotation motor wont fit to the cog. then take apart ,
9: Re asemble the turret and fill the gap between the turret and the thin plastic sheet at the rear of the turret, then re mount onto the tank,
10: Turn the whole thing upside down and place the turret rotation unit against the turret rotation cog so it will work an mark the three holes . I then glued three bolts to the upper body on these marks and bolted the unit to the tank. I also did the same for the small square circuit board .
11: remove all un wanted sprues and add pieces of plastic rod to were you require sprues and drill a tiny hole in the top to take the fixing , remount the electronics.
12: Test run the turret rotation but only when all the fittings are secure.

I will post soon how I fitted the turret protection ring . I have fitted mine now to my Heng Long Tiger I

Hi just re scaled the pictures and added an extra one .
