I am doing a pair of King Tigers right now. One is mint out of the box and one is a bit of a Frankenstien with a Henglong body and a Tamyia Turret. Only after getting them side by side did I notice the Tamiya turret is biggerthan the Henglong turret, a bit taller and a bit longer but which is correct? I always thought the Henglong was a copy of the Tamiya, right? The Henglong turret actually looks proportionatly better on the tank than the Tamiya.... Perhaps the Tamiya hull is also a shade larger to match??

I'd go with the Tamiya as the HL is probably just a poorly cloned copy. It was probably never done with a 3D scanner or measured up to check proportions.
Just remember JNB....Heng Long is basically a "Toy" company...Tamiya is a "model" company...So scaling should be more accurate with the Tamiya ...Though I have found in other Tamiya models...that their scaling (though pretty good)...is a tad on the large size....Try comparing some 1/35th scale models...IE: against Italeri ...Hobby Craft ...Hasegawa etc....you will find the scaling is off as well
Bottom line from my point of view...just go with what you like...but if you plan on going Tamiya...I'd say get the Hull to match
Here is an update, They are both almost ready for paint now. With the same primer our eyes can make better more accurate comparisions. The Henglong KingTiger is very good. If I had not stared at tanks for so many years I would have just assumed they were identical. I even called in the missses and asked her if they were the same and she laughed and said I was insane. I get that allot
The bottom line is the very front of the Henglong turret is a bit short causing the roof to pitch down just a shade to much and the gun mantel to poke up just a hair more than it should.
If you are totally confused as to what you are looking at the one on the right is the Henglong, the one on the left is Tamiya, both are on Henglong chassis and both have Tamiya gun mantlets. The Henglong is not a cheap toy, it is very very good! A long way from some of their early tanks! Enjoy
