 hi there , i have a few methods for bending side skirts on a tiger1 and king tiger . i use a lighter but dont heat for too long and you can push up the skirt how you want it before it cools down. as for shell holes i used a soldering iron heat it up and slowly push the tip into what armour you want to hit or show as damage then use a normal pencil to colour in the impact you can also use a tip of a sponge cut into a triangle shape and dip the tip in black paint to show worn paint in that area ricochet marks can be done with a pencil as well. there are a lot of ways to do battle damage on your tank but take a practice try on some old parts first. a pencil is also great for showing worn paint around hatch handles just keep drawing on the handle with the pencil and you will see shining paint this also works great on a tiger1 on the rear engine grills with crew walking over them so many times also on a tiger1 you can run the pencil around the top of the turret on the weld lines to show worn paint work affected by rain fall on the turret top plate and where the mg is set up on the copula to show bare metal hope this helps

Hi Whiskey runner
I think this might be a bit extreme but I met a guy with a 1/6 metal king Tiger 2 weeks ago at a meet with some of the most realistic shells holes and ricochet I have ever seen in the side skirts and the hull.
When I asked him how he had done them He just laughted and said they was downloaded .22 bullet holes. He had actually taken the hull to a local range and fired a couple of rounds at the model and then just highlight the damage.
I applaud the guy for realism but to spend £??????? on a tank and then shoot a couple of holes in it :O My wife would hang, drawn, and quarter me if I went that far.
I have not tried the pencil method (but I will) I use a very soft hair brush lightly loaded with a thin humbrol siver paint and lightly brush any edges to achieve a wear look. I also use dark brown mixed with gunmetal to give the impression of boot scruffs.

We are working on painting up my buddies Tiger, here is what I did to it so far. A mix of drill, xacto knive and, soldering iron. Will add a lot of shading, marking and such when I weather it after the paint scheme is done.

That looks really good .
May I make a suggestion (as a semi retired weapon and munnition proof officer) Armour plate when pieced or glanced off, the impact area takes on a "shiny Rolled apperance" We carried out some Ammunition pentraction trials on 100mm Armour from Nato o' to Nato 60' angles and all the impact areas took on a shiny half melted apperance in preferous to the dull mottled apperance of the standard armour plate finnish.
The kinetic energy created as the ammuntion travels through the plate leaves behind a very hard thin carbon "slag" coating that even when painted (to highlight damage on trial photo's) leaves the paint with a almost satin/gloss finish.
Hope this information might help people
