Hi All,
New to the forum so I apologise if this topic has been covered already. I'm looking to get back into the RC modelling again after many years out of it and thought I would try my hand at a tank.
I've seen a few threads cover the Heng Long tanks but nothing much on the King Tiger. Has anyone currently got one or modified one recently? I was looking at getting the Henschel turret version.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/32109793 ... hlpsr=true
On another note I was looking at getting a custom paint job done on it with zimmerit and marking to match that of the Pz Abt 505 and I was wondering if anyone knew someone who did this? I'm ok at brush painting but I don't have access to an spray gun and would be very wary of painting with a brush on such a big scale.
Thanks for the help
S

Welcome to the Forum,
You will quickly discover that most Tanks have been "covered"
BUT that is not a reason to avoid building your own,
When I think of how many Tiger 1s have been built on this Forum I can only imagine how jealous the German armed forces of the last unpleasantness would feel not having access to anywhere near the same amount,
As to your King Tiger I would suggest scrolling down to "HENG LONG BUILDS" and clicking on sub page 2 (you will find this at the bottom right hand side of the page) and then scroll down to "HERMAN BIXs PRODUCTION TURRET KING TIGER" build.

seriously his work is top quality and you will learn a great deal including painting as he is not overly keen to use an airbrush either,
I have to confess one of the reasons I have never built a King Tiger is because of our Australian brothers tour de force.
Finally enjoy the Forum and please do ask lots of questions so that we can all show how clever we are.

Re: Heng Long King Tiger
Just about finished up on my King Tiger build, started out with a rebuilt Taigen base model KT with metal running gear and have spent the past 9 months or so rebuilding it. I started with a Porsche turret and swapped it to a Henchel turret, put in a Torro metal lower hull, 4.1 hardened steel gearboxes, hi torque motors, a Zimmerit job, TARR mark II smoker, IBU2 board with amp card for the sound, and a custom paint job from the 505th from Poland in 44. The only thing I'm waiting on is the speakers from Mato who claimed they were in stock however the shipping stuff says they're coming from China.
Where are you located and what would you like done to your tank? I'd LOVE to do a custom build for someone else that way I get to have all the fun building it and get to pass the costs on to someone else!

Mr Jarndice is tooo kind
I have always wanted to pull together an octopus King Tiger and when H/L bought out the Production turreted version that was my chance.
As in keeping with the date & theme, the tank is really only lightly mod'ed, but has all the representations of the famous machine with the one off paint.
I will get to doing another more battle weary version with zim, but for now its finishing the 'Zu-Fuss" and then a STuG III.
Looks like the ebay tab you posted is Dutch ??
I assume you are in Europe not Australia as your username might suggest ?
Let us know a geographic so someone nearby could perhaps help.

Hi, The best two places to buy all things tank is also the place to find in my opinion the worst and that is on line!
I refer to Forgebear who trades primarily on E-BAY but can also be found at www.theallertons@fsmail.net who will sell you a HENG LONG tank to your specs and all the upgrades, Dave is rightly acknowledged as the best place to go for all matters TANK he is also a member of this Forum and is often to be seen along with his lady at many Tank club meetings.
The other recommended dealer is Steve at www.welshdragonmodels.com he will sell you all things TAIGEN, Tanks and upgrades, Steve is also a member of the Forum, both these dealers are solid which is more than I can say about "TANKZONE" some people on the forum reckon he is great I DON'T!!!
If you go to the recommended dealers part of the Forum you will see pages of dealers we recommend

And if you go to the Blacklist you will find too many dealers we DO NOT recommend.
enjoy
