Heng Long Bulldog

Just bought a Heng Long Bulldog. My grandson has had one for a few years and it has always been the nicest tank to drive that we have.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that heng long now supply the driver's periscopes as a separate item and so it saves the task of de-bonding them in order to place them correctly. They have also changed the paint and it now appears to my eyes to be a closer match to the real tank.

Over all I am very pleased with the tank.

At present not too many mods - just taigen low profile metal gearboxes and a 5000mah NiMH pack.

Have committed my usual heresy and stripped out all the heng long electrics and fitted twin mtroniks speed controllers and made the turret rotation proportional using a servo control board. The tank is now controlled by Futaba radio and drives so much better with the mtroniks controllers. Next thing is to sort out a sound card for the gun sound. I have a heng long flash unit for muzzle flash and am triggering it with the switch unit that will also control the sound. Have not fitted the flash as yet but it works fine 'on the bench'

The new generation Taigen gearboxes are quite nice and not too noisy once run in. I picked the low profile ones in case I decide to pluck up the courage and lower the deck.

Making the rear deck have the correct slope isn't that hard (you also have to modify the mufflers a little). Best to do it before you get to far along with painting and add a barrel clamping arm.
