M113

Post by MichaelC »

Hi all,

Some quick pics and a couple of videos for my latest, a 1/18 M113 RC that I have converted to Clark and IR Battle ready with a "after market" TOW missile launcher on a servo rotation. Since it is a missile launcher I had put the flash on the back of the launch tube and put the IR emitter in the front. I kept the existing lower chassis and gearset and might get dgsselkirk to put in an IR 50 Cal. for me and make it rotating as well.

Michael,
You give me hope for my old 21Century 'RC' M113. I had determined to wait until something could be done about the lower chassis and tracks but you have turned out an awesome vehicle! Friday Kudos!

Painless

Painless, you got to work on yours...... I had so much fun. I think it is the same one, right ? I ended up reusing all the lower chassis other than the electronics and it turn out nicely. I haven't been outside or battle yet so don't know what it will be like, but it can't be any worse than say a HobbyBoss M1 converted.

Michael,
It certainly looks the same. Does yours have the non working suspension and rubber\vinyl\? material tracks?

One of the same. You can still see the holes where stowage were mounted before. I have to do another fill and sand as this is only the base coat and I want to see how it looks put together. I put in LEDs for front and back, only keep the lower with the gearbox and wired them to Clark.

Michael,
All right, my friend. ;o) I never held out much hope for outdoor use without a working suspension. This AFV is easily caught in any kind of grass. I had recently thought (with all of the new 3D Printer stuff out there) that it would be possible to print a lower hull and use HL style suspension arms and printed track segments connected with pins ( ala Fruilmetal ) to set this up with a working suspension. You have shown that using hobby grade electronics works with easily obtainable HL bits to make it into an actual RC vehicle. A better lower is out there somewhere as well. ;o)

Thanks ed ! Painless, this is not meant to be a world beater........ Just to look kinda pretty next to the Leos and the Abrams (and bulldogs which is more appropriate for the time period) of the world.

We do many indoor meets (We are in Canada after all) so this will be perfectly fine putting along and taking pot shots once in a while...... :-)

Michael,
I could not agree more. Please post a few videos of it running at the meet. They provide a lot of mental impetus and show us stock M113 owners what is possible for the vehicle.

Painless
