IBU2 pro - StugIII

Post by mike1268 »

I can see a few write ups about the IBU2 pro, thought I would put my experiences with it down for people to read.

First obervation, this thing has a pin/socket for almost everything. So yes you an plug n play a heng long without any issue. Or if like me you are ripping out all the heng long servos and connectors, you only need a little wiring info (which is in the instructions) and knowledge to get everything running as designed. Main thing to observe with the heng long wiring, some of the componants have a common positive (e.g. the machine gun light and the front light). Once I got these soldered up to the original HL connector, they worked as intended, without issue.
Main reason for going for the pro is because I wanted to get the traverse working, so needed the servo support. Also to free more room up as the space in the stug is tight, I wanted to change to a servo recoil. The servo traverse and elevation work great, as expected. You even get a hand cranking noise when travering the gun when the engine is off. When I first tried the servo recoil (which was easy to rig up to the stug) the timings were way out. As default the recoil was set to 4000ms, so the barel stayed back for 4 seconds. I found a setting of 400ms was closer to the videos I found (maybe a typo in the default settings?) also halved the return time and is now looking good. But I expected to have to tweek the timings, that part of the fun of having something that you can customise in this way.

So other then having to reverse a few channels in the .ini file and set the timings up, this worked perfect out of the box. The 6 channel radio gear I got with mine is very good value, all working as expected and the transmitter and reciver are pre paired so no messing about needed. The genral drive of the tank feels a lot more controlled and relistic. Also being able to turn lights on and off and the smoke unit from the transmitter are nice touches

Defo looking to get another for my next tank.
