Tiger Mid from Germany

Post by Tony Wizzz »

http://www.rctank.de/360-24-GHz-TIGER-M ... and-sound-

Thinking of buying this one, would it be a decent buy for a relatively trouble free tank, my tanks are not for show, I would be running outside in the garden. I have the Taigen T34 which works fine outside. I really would like a Tiger but my experiences with the Heng Long Tiger 1 Pro have made me wary!

Thanks

That's essentially the same RTR Tiger 1 I bought a few weeks ago (mine is early Tiger 1 which they sell for €379.00 euro) and its a great tank. It's mostly metal, quite heavy and is well built. I highly recommend it if you want a high-end tank out the box, but that doesn't mean you can't improve it.
I've already upgraded mine with an IBU2 controller and TARR MKI smoker.

I can also vouch for rctank.de. I bought my RTR Tiger 1 and Torro Tiger 1 kit from them and both took about 3 working days to arrive.

Thanks, I don't mind paying to upgrade, if it makes it better. But don't want to be paying for upgrades to make it useable, I probably expected to much from the HL Tiger which I'll probably chuck in the bin! Although I have ordered some DIY bits to see if I can fix it. Stock parts would cost about £110 to fix it (maybe) so doesn't seem worthwhile. I am in awe of what you guys can do but in Football terms you are in the Premier League and I'm Exeter City :D

Like I say just want a useable tank out of the box to run around the garden. Armourtek would be nice :D bit out of my price range though!

Most of the upgrades you need for a Taigan are purely cosmetic.

Hi Tony.

rctank.de is a very reputable seller.

I have bought two of their older Tigers second hand and I can only say that they run like a dream -that says a lot.

Two new features of this tank are particularly exciting: 360 turret rotation and bb + recoil. I will be interested to hear how well the recoil works though: it needs to snap back and then slowly return, not visa versa.

With hindsight I wish I had started my own Tiger with one of these as a basis. Electronics are not my strong point and these come with sturdy wiring and, above all, good connections. Believe me because I talk from bitter experience - you can waste a lot of time up-grading your tank if the electronics don't work properly from the get-go.

They still have many inaccuracies with the details - for example I believe that the turret ring still sits incorrectly within the hull (too far forward) - but these can all be fixed with patience and a little skill. At least you know when you put it all back together it will still work. Whatever you do, don't cut any wires!

There's a video which appears on the site:

http://www.rctank.de/360-24-GHz-TIGER-M ... and-sound-

This is very interesting.

It shows a stock HL/Taigen Tiger 1 with some extras:

The 360 rotation is there all right - but ultimately limited by the snagging of the wires.

The servo recoil is slower and less deep than the old Taigen recoil unit.

The bb function is not shown - but presumably there since the red light goes on in the MG aperture.

There is a single wire loom joining the lower and upper hull - a big advantage.

The main gun elevation still requires a cog system stored in the turret bin - a big disadvantage for those who want to upgrade.

So overall - a mixed bag!
