Master Chief and Bulldog cage!

Post by Neomax25 »

Hey guys, i'vee seen a few cages on various tanks lately and thought they are a good idea, good for adding stowage when you dont have much deck space to play with, as with all tanks you have to allow free roam of the turret so creating stowage and not hindering rotation isn't easy.

Now i know that purists out there are probably going to turn in their graves, as i've not seen a single M41A3 Walker Bulldog with a cage on it anywhere, though the M41 DK-1 did have a box type section in the same place i've put a cage, thats where i got the idea from!
But i thought, 'well, tanks evolved a lot in the field'. The military personnel made lots of modifications as they saw fit to do so, as long as it was helping not hindering. So i figure that's what i'm going to do with this, i'm going to treat it as though i were it's Commander, and make any changes that i see as beneficial or justified, and see what it ends up looking like!!
Here it is so far, the recent changes i've made are: Got rid of the log on the front, added chains to the front. Made and fitted the cages either side, with chain running along the cage bottoms. Made and added the barrels (still need weathering). Added a strap to the shovel and tools on the front, and replaced the spare plastic links on the front plate with metal ones. Oh i got some rope and i also made a steel tow line (though i dont think it looks very good  :-[ )
Oh and i broke the gun off driving through the rough stuff, but that was an accident and happened after the pics were taken!..lol

Now i hear you saying 'What about this Master Chief business?' well.... i reckon Halo and them Master Chief lads must have designed a time machine, as i have photographic evidance of a Master Chief sitting on a 1951 M41A3 Walker bulldog!!

Be amazed and see for yourself!!!!

Great additions! I really like the cages 'a la M48'! If you're not happy with the tow cable, have you thought about using picture wire or 3mm wire rope (you can get it from B & Q - about 99p / metre.) Also it was common practice with tank crews in Vietnam (I know the US didnt use the M41 there but hey, they didn't have Master Chief either!) to carry a roll of chain link wire fencing on the rear deck, to place around the vehicle, when in a night laager, as a defence against RPGs. (As seen in 'Full metal Jacket'). Apparently it would short out the electric fuse in the tip of the RPG and either detonate it away from the tank or it would drop to the ground as a dud. A piece of the plastic netting that fruit punnets are wrapped in at the supermarket is perfect. Just cut it square, spray it with metal primer then brush paint with humbrol metalcote. Buff it with a rag, roll it up and it looks great in 1/16 scale! some balsa wood 'fence posts' sharpened with a knife complete the job. Hope you don't mind my suggestions, you already seem prettty creative!
Good luck,
Seafire.
