My typhoon in action

Post by tomhugill »

its a very long time coming but it's taken a little while to work out all the bug and leaks in the typhoon so she's ready to sail. After several abortive attempts I finally managed to get her running for the Ellesmere Port model boat show. She drew quite a crowd! She did run at periscope depth but I'm still waiting for the photos!

Tom forgive my stupidity but I must ask, how in the world do you run an RC submarine? How do you know where it is? Cameras? It looks really cool but I'm stumped. :{

Hey, I think as a model submariner this is understandably the question I get asked the most. The holy grail of model submarines is to have the model run consistently at periscope depth so you get a little wake coming off said periscope. Sometimes I like to run with the top of the conning tower showing so it's easier to see.

The best place to run a sub is an outdoor swimming pool so the sub can be seen under the water, unfortunatly the pert unity for this is rather limited

The show organisers made it clear that piracy on the high seas (well canal basin in this case) was seriously frowned upon!!
