7.2v Batterys and chargers

Ok, more newby questions (sorry)

I've not run anything RC for years. My Stug comes with a 1700 battery and back in t'day 2000 was regarded as ok. I'm sure I've seen a 13000 bettery in a picture earlier, so as you can imagin, I'm a little behind the times.

Whats the best 7.2v batteries to get and intelegent chargers. Als oquick chargers please

Hi Mike,

Generally the higher the capacity the longer the run time of your tank. But it comes down to cost vs capacity and recently the price of LiPo batteries has fallen to be cheaper than ni-cd or mi-mh batteries. I recently bought a 5000mah 7.4v LiPo for £16.50 delivered.

But with LiPo you DO need a smart charger and treat them carefully. But a smart charger can charge a 5000mah battery in 1-2 hours easy.

mike, the 13,000 mAh is an abomination. I bought it almost as a joke. As Ian said, 4,000-5,000 mAh is the norm if you are buying something aftermarket.

Ah fair doos, I can see plenty of 5000's that seem a good price. Any recomended brands or brands to avoid?

Same goes for chargers, is there a recomended smart charger or any to avoid?

I can find stuff for sale, just no reviews

I prefer nicads because they give you warning that they are running out of juice where the lipos just suddenly stop. 3000's and up will give you plenty of run time. Look at the brands that car racers use (as well as the chargers they use) because they must recharge between heats and prefer not to burn up their batteries in the process.

Thanks guys. Found a smart charger that will cope with Ni-Cd, Mh and Li batterys for £40. Slow and fast charge, can also discharge. Seemed to get good reviews

Lots of good advice above, I use an Overlander digital charger, will charge anything, biggest battery I have is a 6800 NiMH.

Also the heavier your tanks get the quicker the battery will be used up. Once mine started breaking the 20 lb mark a battery that would give me over an hour of run time now gives me around 30 to 45 min. But man I love my tanks to have as much metal on them as I can get! I treat them like they were real tanks and as we all know a King Tiger was a thirsty beast in real life so my 30 min run time equals about a tank of gas.
