Decided on a Heng Long ... T-34/85

Post by puramo »

I certainly do admire the skill and hard work that forum members put into their tanks and the wealth of knowledge that enables others to maintain, run, repair, upgrade and enjoy their RC tanks, so once again a big thank you

I think my first styrene model kit was an Airfix Hurricane followed by a Spitfire, a Messerschmitt and then a Lancaster. And shortly after that I discovered Tamiya Military AFV model kits and have never looked back.

I really appreciate quality and engineering, yet seeing so much being got out of Heng Long tanks here on the forum and all the Youtube vids, I decided to jump in too. So thanks for your stories, builds, uploads, pictures, failures, tricks, tips, improvements, bad ideas, good ideas, cutting, sanding, tweaking and just basically getting the most out of these very available, affordable and attractive platforms.

Me do think tho' they might do better if they manufactured them without the paint. :D

Hey mate, think of an H/L as a kind of "worst house in the best street" thing.
Once its done, there is no less of an achievement, and its all your work & ideas, plus its a project done in instalments rather than a huge capex up front
Recommend a 2.4Ghz set up right off the bat.
I got a retro fit 2.4 for my Panther for $50 AUD (thats about 7 pence/euro where you are !! :/ )
Best thing I ever did in a Tank................wish I had done all of them
HL JAGDPANTHER,HL TIGER 1,HL PzIII MUNITIONSCHLEPPER, HL KT OCTOPUS,HL PANTHER ZU-FUSS,HL STuG III,HL T34/85 BEDSPRING,
HL PZIV MALTA,MATORRO JAGDTIGER,HL F05 TIGER,TAMIYA KT,HL PANTHERDOZER,HL EARLY PANTHER G,TAIGEN/RAMINATOR T34/76,
HL AN-BRI-RAM SU-85

Herman, thanks, thought about a Bandai Hummel and still have my eye on many Tamiya auctions, but seeing as so many people are having a good time with them, I should be able to too. Got me a pack of styrene from the 'ol boy at the hobby store, and am ready to strip it all down and build it all up back up again

Yep really agree with you about 2.4G that was why I finally cracked when a good deal passed by, looking forward to more tips and helping out.

"Which heng long are you getting puramo?"

the guy I got it from told that it had 2.4G on the box, is green and has wheels, I don't think he knew a lot about AFV's
I'll see what the postman brings :haha:

Hahaha these Heng Longs are something else :D

The guy I bought from was first rate. Took the stuff out the box and the knobs fell right off the Tx :wtf:

I wonder how many grandpas sit in the kitchen of an evening fixing their grandson's Tiger 1 frozen solid in the Russian winter

Could be a nightmare for the unprepared, but thanks to this forum this looks like an amazing base for a project

First off it took me 20 minutes to get the led to come on, on the Tx, no kidding. And then I had to squeeze it with both hands making operation of the tank nigh impossible. But everything on the tank worked a peach, even the smoker and the tank itself is impressive, love the linked tracks.

First mod was to attack the Tx by cutting out portions of the upper row battery tray and now it turns on everytime without anyone have to give it a bear hug. I then totally dismantled the kit and started chopping everything up

I guess pretty much everything has already been told about these HL tanks, but I thought the solder points and the boards in the Tx were pretty clean, much less so in the tank itself.

Umm
got this rather pale looking chappy for a couple of bucks, he's Russian and he's a soldier, but I'm not sure how he'll look on the tank, at least there will be somebody now, that was the best I could do
