Taigen Late Tiger 1

As I stated earlier, I picked this Tiger up from the scratch and dent section of Taigen/IMEX web site. This week end I started in on the painting process. The first photo is how it arrived from Taigen.

And here is the almost finished Tiger. I need to re-add metal tools to the deck, paint and apply the tow cables, and find some appropriate decals. Any and all comments or criticism is welcomed. This is my second attempt at using an air brush.

If you are serious about comments then this is what I would do, I would remove the "WRONG" radio stowage tube from the right hand rear side (LOOKING FROM THE FRONT) and I would fit "ABER" engine mesh over the engine grilles and being a perfectionist??? I would carve a seperating slot between each side fender as they were on the real thing individual sections. But that's just me. Your doing a nice job, certainly an improvement on what you started out with. shaun

Hallo Joe, I meant the engine grille which is at the top of the picture and the Aerial stowage tube in the centre of the picture and the Fenders or mud wings at the bottom of the picture, so in answer to your question, yes, yes, and yes!!! BUT, I say again BUT, there are probably more TIGER 1s out there looking like yours simply because every maker including TAMIYA include these faults and they leave it to us to fix them! So what I am not doing is criticising you but I wish the makers would get their act together. Like I said it is a very nice job of work you have presented, by the way if you decide to remove the Aerial stowage tube do take care, it is easy to both cock up the Tank body and also you would not be the first person to cut your fingers to ribbons in the effort (DON'T ASK!) shaun

Thanks Shaun. I appreciate the feed back. I am striving to do a better job on my tanks. Removing the tube and re-painting that area won't be too difficult a task. So, "Let it be written,let it be done" Tell me more about ABER mesh. Where can I get it? The fenders won't be a problem either, BUT, was/is there a gap between the fenders or did they butt up against one another? I hope it isn't the latter, that would be a difficult task.

Hi Joe, There is a gap between each fender/mudwing, the way I sort it out is to use an EXACTO saw blade, as to the "ABER" Grille there are two types the EARLY and the LATE both are available from
www.welshdragonmodels.com or from Dave at Forgebear on E-BAY although Dave is on holiday until the 23rd February, GOOGLE EXACTO for a supplier if you need blades, if you don't have any EXACTO blades I would also get a keyhole blade at the same time and don't forget the handle!!! I know more bl**dy expence. shaun

Thanks Shaun, I have a razor saw that will do the trick. It has a very fine, thin blade.

JOE, I have just visited Welsh Dragons site and they are selling the "ABER" engine grille's for an early Tiger 1 for £21!!! but they are also selling the TAIGEN version and I am familier with both and there is very little difference and the TAIGEN grille's are on sale at £6.99 so a bit of a no brainer really, and they are in stock., Just remember to lightly EMERY/File the outside edge of the TAIGEN Grille's to ensure a snug fit. shaun
