ANOTHER AUSSIE JOINS THE FORUM

Post by thomasthetank »

I JOINED UP A FEW DAYS AGO TO GET IDEAS AND ASSISTANCE IN MY TANK BUILDING VENTURE. I ASK MYSELF WHY I GOT BACK TO BILDING MODELS WHEN IT USED TO DRIVE ME MAD..... BUT BIG TANKS ARE HARD TO RESIST SO AFTER 12 YEARS I AM AT IT AGAIN. MY INTEREST IN TANKS STARTED WITH MY FATHER WHO SERVED IN THE ARMOURED CORPS DURING WWII IN NEW GUINEA, THEY USED MOSTLY MATILDAS AND LEE GRANTS. I SERVED IN THE RESERVES FOR 10 YEARS AS A RIFLEMAN. TANKS ALWAYS FASCINATED ME AN I HAVE A LARGE COLLECTION OF MODELS. THE WIFE REFUSED POINT BLACK TO LET ME BUY A CENTURIAN...I LIVE IN THE BLUE MOUNTAINS IN SYDNEY AND AM RETIRED. I HOPE TO ENJOY THE DISCUSSIONS AND APPRECIATE THE ADVICE ... THOMASTHETANK

G'day mate. A lot more from Oz joining lately.
I had a wife that refused to let me buy a real T34/76 in 1993 !!
Was $3500 to buy, but a touch over $36K to ship it !!.
She was wrong to think that was outrageous & what on earth would I have done with it.................... :eh: ?

Please look through the site & check out the good & bad vendors sections. I can vouch for a couple of suppliers here - OZARMOUR and TANKARMY.COM that I have dealt with without problems.
Depending on what tank you have/end up with( probably a Tiger  ) you can also benefit from sifting through the pages of previous builds, each one has something to offer, & a lot of them are just spectacular to behold.

The lads here are free with advice & really happy to help where they can given the tyranny of distance.

Good to have you along.

G'day Thomasthetank,

Nice to see another Aussie. I am new too and live in South Australia.
Funny how us retired ol'timers end up doing this hobby !!
If you know anyone in Adelaide that is interested in this stuff or is good at electronics on rc models, let me know. I am keen to start a tank club here.

I appreciate the warm welcome and will try not to ask too many stupid questions.... but in passing I read a great article from an ex tankman on the pros and cons in buying the real thing....and I have to say it was quite a laugh and made me realise the huge problems in running, maintaining, housing and transporting a tank let alone a beast like the centurion. So much for my dreams.
Thanks for the welcome...

Hello Thomasthetank and welcome from California. As you can see, I am new myself. I've found this board and the people who participate in it are very kind and helpful. They love to answer questions, so ask away.
