MAD tree bases/scenery
Hi at my last visit in December I noticed that we had very few bases for the trees so things were a little sparse. I have an idea to fix that but I need everyone on skip watch for some of the 1" thick boarding that is used on buildings while renovations are in progress (the tattier the better). If anyone sees any of this can they grab it, preferably in smaller pieces for handling as it will need to go in my boot. I am away in January but when I come to the February meet I will take away whatever bits everyone's found, cut them into suitable shapes/pieces, drill holes in them for the trees to fit, and slap some green paint (I think I have some left from treating my fences) and throw some sand on when wet to give an appropriate finish. With the right mix of sizes/shapes we might also be able to stack them to give contours. That way we can use all the trees that are currently languishing in the box. Also if anyone has any old bits of foam then these might be added to the mix as bushes if painted green/brown and stuck on.
What does everyone think to the approach?

Ig sounds like a good idea to me plus we can have bases with around give trees in so it will be harder to nock them over!

Re: MAD tree bases/scenery
Hi Stug, were they not used because they were fiddly or because people didn't bother to put the trees out? I'm not looking for make work in doing bases for the trees if they won't get used, so it's down to the members to decide whether we do this? Alwyn

Re: MAD tree bases/scenery
The holes were drilled too big and they took up too much room in the storage room so we binned them

Re: MAD tree bases/scenery
Oh ok, well the offer to make some bases still stands, provided we can find the material. Hopefully if the bases are flat they won't take up too much space and can also double as contour/scenery if painted/added bushes etc. Alwyn

Re: MAD tree bases/scenery
Hi yes the holes had been drilled two big so we ended up chucking them.
But some how we lost a few of the plastic bases at a show when packing away thats why we have a lot of trees we cant use plus now we hire out the bigger store room we have space to store them !
They need to be made so we can fit around five trees in a base would be a good idea as we can then use all the trees and provide better cover when being shot at !

Ok well all we need is the wood and I'll do the rest. If members can keep their eyes open for the wood from skips/building sites etc and I'll pick up what we can find at the February meet. There is a building site at the end of my road but depends if they skip the wood before I'm back from my hols. Cheers. Alwyn

Re: MAD tree bases/scenery
Well good news.
I have been skip raiding and acquired sufficient 1" MDF from the building site to do the job.
If someone can measure the size of holes required in the mdf at the meet this month and post it on this thread then I will prepare some samples for the February meet. It doesn't matter if there are different size holes required for different trees, I will drill a variety of holes to suit. Cheers Alwyn
