Any fix for a tight hot running motor?

Post by Marc780 »

I know this should be in the electronics section but this problem has me more then a bit peeved. A long while ago i sent away for a pair of powerful motors for the gearboxes and just recently, got around to switching the gears, soldering the connectors, and getting them ready to put in a black steel gearbox. I test ran them before installing them, in my T-34. ONE motor works fine, runs cool, and how you'd want it, the other motor heats up in no time! I hooked it up through an Rx to make sure it's not getting over-voltage. And the motor gets very hot in no time! Not hot enough to scald you hot but hot enough to be way more noticeable then the other exact same motor. I have been trying to run it in for half a day now, with a big house fan on it yet, and the bearings in the motor don't seem to have loosened up at all. When i turn any of my other motors by hand, they turn much more easily then this motor, including it's "mate". And they DON'T heat up. Is there a remedy or fix? Or am I worried over nothing? Or is the motor just bad?

Hi marc780.
I would put an amp meter in line with the motor and see what current its pulling normally I would exspect to see about 0.6-0.8 amp when running free or even less than that depending on the motor. I use to race model power boats and sometimes you got a bad motor where the main shaft was tight from manufacture, hence pulling high amps when free running, I tried all sorts to bed then in and sometimes by spraying graphite penetrating oil into the bearing whilst running it, (use to work sometimes). But to be honest 90% of the time it was easier to throw the motor in the bin and get a replacement motor.
The motor may run, but the extra heat its generating is produced by burning excessive amps, resulting in a heavy load on your ESC or motherboard and also using your battery capacity thus giving a shorter running time for your tank.
Sorry mate but it might be cheaper in the long run to get a replacement
opp's you said get off the road

Sounds like you need a new motor Marc. I have a bunch of them lying around collecting dust if you need 1, or 2 of them PM me and we'll talk. I'm thinking once again you pay for the shipping and I'll send them to you. Sorry they're NOT super secret special awesome high torque motors but if you want em they're yours.
