Hi folks,

I am near to completing the shell of my Tiger  and have adopted the number 323.....I must say that the application of these 3 numbers on zimmerit finish is stressing me out no end. It took me ages to get the crosses to an acceptable level on the sides of the hull....these have straight lines so the curves of the numbers have given me hell on a trial pannel of zim.

I am going to try something later tonite that will allow me to mask off the zimmerit for spraying decent curves.

Can someone tell me what colour the numbers should be please....white or red. Am I right in thinking they should be Red and approx 1 inch in height..?

I have made a few parts in brass plate.....what is the best primer for brass....I can't seem to get paint to hold fast.... I have even tried an acid etch primer after a wire wool clean with thinners. Lobbing the ruddy bits in the bin is seriously close.....

I know what you mean, i had to walk away and take a breather when i was doing the numbers on my zimmerit, in the end i found that if i did'nt stir the paint and just used some of the gooey stuff from the bottom of the pot it does not run into all the nooks and crannys and eventually i was happy with it, so good luck and i wait to see some pictures

welcome to the world of armour modelling mike , the colour of my numbers are red with white outline, but there is loads of different colours used, as for a good base for painting brass, i would reccomend "kurust" its a rust treatment you can get from halfords or the like, you paint it on (its a milky colour) let it dry, it turns black when dry once its dried prime if desired and then paint as normal, ive used it for yonks on cars and models it does work on allsorts of surfaces and it dont destroy plastic, it even works on skin , i know ive had it on my hands loads of times ::) give it a go let me know how you get on

Blue on yellow seems to be the consensus for the lower numbered tanks of the 3rd Company. Higher numbered vehicles had solid white - I can't find any good pics of 323 to tell for sure, but I'd lean towards blue on yellow. Height should be somewhere between 15 to 20mm - 1" is too tall.

Have you tried Halfords spray primer?

As a rule of thumb, 1st company had either black on white, or white outlined numbers over the base paint, 2nd company was red on white, and 3rd company we already covered .

if you think of it, the only thing set in stone is the unit insignia, the size and colour of the numbers varies from tank to tank and unit to unit, so i think you could get away with almost any colour and size of numbers on a tank, even the scripts used vary quite a lot

absolutely correct, alot of information states different colors for different company's but there is still contradictory information that says different colors were used in the same company, here is a 3rd coy tiger if you enlarge the pic the numbers seem to be solid white....
