How low can you go with an rx 18 regards voltage?

Post by Rocketman »

Looking for options for the renault ft. The motors are small so cant go above 5v for sure. Will an rx18 even register that?

I found when my LiPo got below 6v the rx18 kept going to standby. Then I realised I had a flat battery :{

So 5v probably no.

Have you thought about adding resistor to the motors to keep voltage down?

Hi How about using the Clark board for the 1/35 scale tanks these I would think run on 4 AA batteries . check site here http://www.clark-model.com/eng/index_e.html

will cost more than a RX18 but if your stuck it could be the answer clark used to make a very small board CSCII which I use in my scout car .

Don't think the Tk-35 will need any less than the Tk-20s. Still needs 7.2v-7.4v on the Clark site, and when I had mine it was basically the same as Tk-22s other than the motor output and the micro plugs.

You can test the Clark board on 6v, but it won't power the motors or reliably power the ancilliaries. Are there any standalone esc's that will do the job? I had a couple in a 21st Century German halftrack once, and that was running one of those small Tamiya twin motor/gearbox units off Ebay.

Hi Guys

Thanks for that.

I got in touch with these guys who specialise in rc fits for 1/35 tanks. Had a chat on email and they seem to have the perfect solution to the problem!

Check out their challenger conversion here: http://35rctank.com/html/k12.html

Its enough to make a guy change scales!

Here's the details from the spec sheets. It even states the 130 size motors Ive fitted!

MTC-2 can work alone as a twin motor ECS (electronic speed controller) for RC tanks. When the ACU
(auxiliary control unit) is connected,
it can also control turret rotati
on, gun elevation, gun firing, machine
gun firing and engine sounds. When the GSU (gun stabiliz
e unit) is connected, ACU can stabilize gun
elevation and turret rotation. This manual explains
operations of MTC-2 and
ACU. For GSU operation,
see separate GSU manual.
MTC-2 highlight features:
-
MTC-2 can work alone as a twin motor ESC, with
8A continuous current for 130 to 280 size motors.
-
Continuous speed changes with forward,
reverse, left, right and pivot turn.
-
ECS brake function, motors can stop instantly.
-
5, 4 or 2 channel receiver options. 2 channel
for standalone ESC, 4 channel for ECS and turret
control. CH 5 is used for optional GSU on/off.
-
Simple one button setup procedure.
-
Battery options: 1-2 Cell Lipo (3.7 – 7.4V), 4-6 Cell NiMH (4.8-7.2V)
-
Auto shutdown at low battery.
-
Dimension (PCB): 38 x 25 x 20mm (1.5” x 1” x 0.8”)

Hell, they are good. Just imagine if they had IR fitted, we could all load 10-20 in a small car, along with tons of 1/35 scenery and not have to worry about carting tons of stuff around.
