Pulling the trigger on a Tiger 1

Post by PaPaGrizz »

Well Ladies and Gents I am going to make my first "hobby grade" tank purchase tomorrow :D

Here is the listing on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291299633025?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

He has a 99.5% rating and is the least expensive vendor I've found.

Questions are:

Has anybody had dealing with them?

Am I making an informed purchase? (metal upgrade vs. plastic)

Would upgrading this to 2.4 gh transmitter be an expensive undertaking? (I have a DX6i, I use for my choppers and planes)

I would be grateful for your comments, no matter if's the Good, Bad, or the Ugly!

Thank you all for a great form.

As long as you know that this "BRAND NEW" Tank is in fact old stock I don't see any more of a problem with it than any out of the box HENG LONG Tiger 1, If it were newer stock it would be fitted with HENG LONGs own 2.4Ghz radio tr/rx (according to ALPHA the latest is a very good system)You being in the USA have a nice choice of control boards available for your SPECTRUM, if you scroll down to the ELECTRONICS section of the Forum you will get a good idea of what does what, the advantage is that you can get rid of the wrongly positioned antennae and the small board in the hull that supports it, you then face the same niggles the rest of us suffer when confronted with a new HENG LONG/TAIGEN/TORRO Tiger the Cupola wrongly positioned, the fitting of two ariel stowage tubes (ONLY ONE ON THE LEFT looking from the front should be fitted) fitting an antennae base on the left side close to the edge of the Tank hull and immediately in front of the engine grille, the headlights are wrong and a bit more yet, all of which you will find out on the Forum and most of it easy to fix. Please do not be put off by anything I have written, it really is fun doing this stuff and when you have finished you will at least know that your Tiger is "RIGHT" Don't forget we are here if you need a helping hand.   shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

To use you DX6i you'd need to replace the rx18 with something like a Clark board. 1 transmitter to rule them all though

Hi,

i am no tiger expert but the pictures look like the older tiger1, barrel in recoil position etc, there are some real people on this forum who will give you the low down to the rivet, hold that itchy trigger finger just a while longer.

Hello Grizz...don't thing that Tiger will be equipped with the 2.4 rig....it's an affordable upgrade though...about 60 to 80 dollars here in the states...RC mart is a good company for you all there... they ship for free...so the bargain is there...I never dealt with them...because they charge extra to ship to me....so even though the overall price is still not bad....I generally go with another vendor...just because of the Variety they carry

Good choice though...the Tiger probably has the most parts available for it...detail and internal

Congratulations and Good Luck :D

Thanks for the info! I'm in no hurry to jump into mods...Yet!! ;) So not having a 2.4 transmitter is no big thing. I believe my first upgrade will be the Benedini TBS, according to I have heard on You Tube, the sound it pretty incredible.

You are also saying the parts are easy to get. That one of the reasons to make the Tiger 1 my choice. Pouring over the numerous threads in the forum, I think it might be a smart move to start. Only the man upstairs will know how it will take me.

Yeah I've seen a video with the bendini....you might need a different RX though.....or be good at electricals....as you might be able to bypass the sound circuit on the standard RX...the upside is if it does get messed up...it'll be a good reason to replace it :lolno:

That is probably the only time you will ask for help or forgiveness from the Man upstairs :haha: Other than that all other results are definitely up to you Grizz ...I can't tell you how many times I hoped for divine intervention.... Only to have it answered with "Nope...you decided to do it ...the outcome is all yours " or..." Electronics is the handywork of the guy downstairs....ask him" 8O .......... :haha: :haha: :haha:

GOOD LUCK Grizz

 hi fella, congrats on your tiger1 have you heard about the IBU2 board which just swaps out the henglong electrics. tankbear on here sells them i had one on my tamiya king tiger which was the same engine and i rate the sounds far better than the tamiya MFU and they are cheap and ian will always help you and you cant beat the sound of a tiger firing then shell case ejected which is on this board just look at his site, hope this helps as the IBU2 is certainly a good board for sounds and movement
