Flak 88 Plans

Post by Mackem »

Now that you lucky buggers have got your 88's, I was wondering what plans you have for them.
Are we going to see a Nashorn conversion, a scratch built towing half track, or an anti-tank diorama?
Let's hear it lads, what are you planning for those little beauties?

Sorry to be a huge letdown with mine but all I will do is weather it and wait with fingers crossed that there will be a Famo released to go with it.

Hi John Hope to build a bunker and fit an I.R.battle unit using the rx18 and BSU ,will have a better idea when I get my hands on it how to do it will probable only have traverse and fixed elevation mounted on a board with traverse unit underneath the emmitter in the recoil unit and a flash in the barrel and the sensors hidden in a barrel or ammo boxes lights the same. The advantage of this is when I can afford to expand buy another gun or build a turret mounted on a bunker using rx18 and BSU again can have them on the same channel .can set them so they cover a bridge or something like this with cross fire it will be very hard for the enemy to cross .

I don't wish to to be too pedantic but the Nashorn has the L71 88mm  barrel as fitted to the King tiger
I know I was that modeller who has done the conversion.

For those of you lucky enough to get an 88 might I recommend"The German 88 Gun Combat" by Janusz Piekalkiwicz isbn 0887403417 Lots of brilliant photos.

For those unlucky souls who do't get an 88 there is still the Verlinden 88mm although prior to starting that kit see a doctor and get a very big bottle of valium you will need it.

Tony, the Famo sounds great, didn't wacky make one of those using a 1:25 panther/jagdpanther lower hull? If
you're going to give it a go i've got an academy 1:25 jagdpanther lower hull you can have.

Pete, wouldn't fancy coming up against your bunker in a battle. I hope your going to post your build.

I really didn't know that about the Nashorn, and that's why this forum is so good, you are learning all the time.

It sounds like some great builds are on the way, wish I'd bought one now.  :'( :'( :'(

The Famo is probably one of my favourite vehicles in its various guises. I did see one on evilbay from a German seller I think but he wanted 3-400 quid for it. When I got Andy from militarymight out of bed to collect my 88 last sunday he mentioned then that mato mentioned a slight possibility of one being released in the future. Gotta be worth a punt with all the different variations there were.
