Hi all
my heng long rx18 2.4g board went up in flames on Saturday from where binding cable attaches to board.
I had it in my Panther G that was running in metal hull, taigen metal wheels and gearbox, heng long upper hull with BB turret.
Thing is quite heavy around 9 lbs,I was only running it on flat kitchen floor for 5 mins when thick smoke poured out the turret.
Luckily hull has quick release and there it was, smoke and flames coming out the board where binding cable plugs into it,and hole melted through
plastic mounting plate, managed to extinguish flames quickly to avoid further damage.
Now I need to find replacement rc unit :

shush: don't tell the Misses.I have 2 other HL Panther Gs one standard pro version another waiting for F conversion.

have a look to see if there is a short somwere in the wiring ? ete, you can get them from WDM the wiring fits as the rx 18 so not much messing there ......? wot wot ......

Ibu is a good bet, currently on offer at £100. I'm not a massive fan of the taigen system, sound is still terrible, the drive isn't as smooth and it's not compatible with most battle systems.

Good Morning,
That is some damage! I know that the end of the Binding cord is a Button with some exposed contacts on the bottom. Any chance that those touching metal or another wired connection may have caused this?
regards,
Painless

Wow that is quite spectacular. Since it wasn't the motor leads or the battery lead, Painless is probably on the right track. This is not because of the load on the MFU. It could very well be a bad solder job somewhere (binding switch or the board) and when you run it long enough (probably took a while since it is not high amp or voltage) it builds up enough to catch fire.
Clark board for me, although I would also vote for Taigen 2.4Ghz if you are on a budget, seems to be just a bit cheaper than HL 2.4Ghz.

I think it will be Taigen 2.4Ghz as I'm a cancer patient and sick pay is just about getting me by.And most of tank is Taigen any way.Clark or IBU might come next year if budget allows, Third Reich Militaria takes most money

That is quite nasty...I think what Painless said might be the cause.... I usually take my binder out after I set it...never seen that happen before ...though tragic...thanks for sharing
