Stug lll Ausf B Research
During the recent Pershing build\redo, I received from Sassgrunt via Alpha, a 1/35 Tamiya Stug lll Ausf B model. This is a really nice kit with an aluminum barrel and added PE. The assault gun also has other nice features like a detailed interior and working suspensions. It has long been on my mind to one day do a Pz lll or comparable Stug and I guess my mind was made up for me. ;o) I already have a complicated build to start this Winter so I will shoe horn the research and parts hunt in between working on that Tiger 1 and catch up to the Stug lll as soon as possible. *chuckles* Alpha,
Still several steps left to go and then, detailing and paint. It is an amazing kit! Thank you, again.

If I could see that the barrel had rifling ..... I might have kept it
...man some of the parts ...I swear Painless... I couldn't tell what some of them were...so I just shook my head and said I can't do this
....So glad it went to someone who can enjoy it

PS. What's better is I get to enjoy it come to life ....so Thank you Painless

Re: Stug lll Ausf B Research
I was up late last night anyway so decided to put a little more work into the Stug research vehicle. I _really_ like the way this little beast is laid out and if I can manage to follow along in 1/16 scale, a Stug lll B would be quite a looker and runner. Made it up to the beginning of Step 17 , only a few more to go. Pictures:

One thing I did notice about this version of the Stug Painless... it's profile is really low...kind of cool in a way...the Germans really did a good engineering job on it...not sure why they put that recessed area above the drivers port...but it looks dang cool with all the ribbing lol

I think that's the gunner's scope area, but I'm not sure what the ribbing is for either. I've never noticed that before.
I think the Stug III was the most mass produced German tank in WWII.

A notation I read ...was that it was a successful variant as well... nice tank to build ..think I might do one as well...though it will definitely not be what everyone might expect...as it won't be HistoricalSovereignZuul wrote:I think that's the gunner's scope area, but I'm not sure what the ribbing is for either. I won't complain about painting 1/16 figures again for a good, long while. *chuckles* I had forgotten how time consuming the smaller scale ones were. He needs to dry tonight then I can continue tomorrow and assemble and detail. Pictures:

Re: Stug lll Ausf B Research
Finished up the Commander tonight. I cannot laud enough having a Tensor type lamp or other device with a large magnifying lens on it when doing this kind of work. I have Tuesday off this week and will finish up this model then and move on to either the Tiger 1 kit or look for a 1/16 HL Stug and lll B upper that are reasonable in price. PIctures:
