HL Tiger 1 first test.
HL Tiger 1 first test.
Just managed to give my new basic 2014 model Tiger 1 a quick test to see if all works OK, and so far so good, however its now obvious to me that they don't include the RX-18 board in them, as there is no proportional speed control, just flat out, the other question I have is that the gun elevation is only worked by pushing the stick up and keeping it there to go up and down, the down on the controller just fires the gun, so will replacing the board with the RX-18 cure all these niggles? and is that all I need?
And whats the cheapest place to get one in the UK?

Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
strange old chap, you say no rx18 ? that is how the gun elevation works ,well on mine it is and down to fire but unless there is a new tx/rx it should be the rx 18 ? wot wot .....
Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
So you think the recent HL builds should have the RX-18 board then? guess I'll have to take it apart to find out...and even if it is there is no proportional speed control so if that's the case it must be faulty?
Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
Greetings Tricky.... you did ok....Canned does have a point though... your elevation / gun fire control does sound reversed .....your tank is like what Mark780 started out with...it's the basic Heng Long....and has the three channel "switchable" A B C system in it....yes your option would be to upgrade to a RX18 system...
The conversion is pretty easy... but you will have to strip out all the workings in the hull...if the motors aren't soldered to the mother board ...even better that way you won't need cables for the motors.... but pretty much everything that is soldered to the mother board will have to be replaced ...Painless wolf is doing an upgrade to the 2.4 gig system on his mid level HL Pershing...you can follow and even ask questions here

If you are seriously considering converting .... I recommend the 2.4 gig rig.... Heng Long Primarily ...or better if it is in your budget ..just because crystal systems have pretty much reached the point where they are obsolete....the good thing about sticking with Heng Long is that all the hook ups are relatively the same ....and there are good package deals with the whole rig less wires popping up all over now
Good Luck

Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
the hl speed controller is pretty full on or full on it not as you may have envisaged ?pretty crude compared to some but you can get them to crawl but you have to be gentle on the stick ? I am pretty sure they are still on rx18 ,is it 2.4.....2014 model
??????

Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
if its a 2014 model it will be rx 18 unless there is some Cali fudging going on
??

Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
Sounds like it's the basic model Canned...no S&S....just run tear and shootcannedheat wrote:if its a 2014 model it will be rx 18 unless there is some Cali fudging going on??

Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
Just pulled it apart .. just six screws and the air cleaner hose clamps, certainly seems a lot easier than the older model, also seems to have the turret in the correct position and the barrel length correct, also noticed that it has the turret vent sorted too,
Yes it has just the basic board...so will be converting to the RX-18, the 2.4 ghz radio will have to come later, but I will be doing a little hull strengthening and perhaps make my own spring loaded rear idler tensioner.
Thanks for the link ALPHA..will have a look, I don't have any problems with soldering/electrics etc so don't foresee any problems fitting the RX-18.

Re: HL Tiger 1 first test.
No Problem Tricky.... it's just a reference... as there are a lot of wires that are different on the basic model...the mid and pro models are all plug n play...I'm not sure if HL made changes to the basic...it's just from memory...most of the connections from the motors ...the power where all soldered to the mother board...they may have changed that...I don't know as I don't buy the basic models much...find it more economical to pop for the higher modelsTricky13 wrote:Just pulled it apart .. just six screws and the air cleaner hose clamps, certainly seems a lot easier than the older model, also seems to have the turret in the correct position and the barrel length correct, also noticed that it has the turret vent sorted too,

It looked like all the wiring was soldered to the main board, so I should be able to trace them all OK and just replace with the wiring/plugs that come with the board I'm ordering, is a fan a necessity for prolonging its life? and if so what's recommended, and should it just be wired into the power feed to the board so as it running all the time the switch is on?
