Tiger 1 ball mount
I know of the bead method of making a hull ball mount, and right now I have a Tiger 11 ball which I shall try to reduce using my DREMEL , last year I bought a well engineered brass ball mount from the USA, but it had it's shortcomings, not least of which was the cost also while it came with an MG 34 it was made of brass and without an LED, whereas I had an MG 34 with a LED, but to fit, it needed the brass ball to be drilled out to take the barrel and the rear of the ball needs to be drilled out to 6mm to take the shoulder of the gun and there is not the spare metal in the ball to take that size bit. My question is why doesn't some one make a cheap Tiger 1 ball mount? And if they do where the H*ll is it to be found. I can make all this stuff, but I would rather it was available ready made, I shouldn't think it would be too much of a challenge to make in RESIN. shaun

Instead of the battle cry "REMEMBER THE ALAMO"... "REMEMBER THE PLASTIC BEAD TRICK" might do welljarndice wrote:I know of the bead method of making a hull ball mount, and right now I have a Tiger 11 ball which I shall try to reduce using my DREMEL , last year I bought a well engineered brass ball mount from the USA, but it had it's shortcomings, not least of which was the cost also while it came with an MG 34 it was made of brass and without an LED, whereas I had an MG 34 with a LED, but to fit, it needed the brass ball to be drilled out to take the barrel and the rear of the ball needs to be drilled out to 6mm to take the shoulder of the gun and there is not the spare metal in the ball to take that size bit. My short sighted friend may I quote, " I KNOW OF THE BEAD METHOD" I shall see if I can arrange for a seeing eye dog and a white cane to be delivered
Seriously I am amazed that such a simple upgrade is not on offer. A hole in the front that will accommodate the barrel and a 6mm sleeve at the back to take the shoulder of the mg plus a simple retaining grid to hold the ball in position, why it might even have room for the sighting hole. shaun

Re: Tiger 1 ball mount
I have almost finished both Tiger 1 ball mounts, The brass mount I shall leave in it's original metal finish, simply because it cost a fortune and the time and effort I have put in to get it right I want people to see it! The second mount including the ball, before I fit it in place needs paint, but what is the right colour? Gun metal? Aluminium Metallic perhaps, One of these will be a Tunisian model, and I have a particular Tiger in mind, so that one is sorted but I am thinking about an early Barbarossa Tiger for the other one, more research to do, help with the ball mount if there are differences would be welcome. shaun

Jarndice,
Taking Herman's current thoughts to mind from his 'White Tiger' thread, the 'right' color will be the one that you like best since any of the possibilities that you mentioned were possible.

Painless

Thats right mate, its the old trap of over analising to the point of paralysis..............the colour you start with might look different after weathering or any number of other reasons.............just go with whatyou can reasonably consider a plaisible scheme and go from there.PainlessWolf wrote:Jarndice,

Will say in some cases accurate reproduction of a known vehicle scheme only leaves the execution of that scheme - not
the choices of what/how/why/do I/dont I etc etc.
That causes turning to the drink
