Well Canned... you know I don't have any Tamiyas...but since none of the experts have come to your aid as of yet ...let me perhaps toss a few ideas for you to muster over
You know in a Heng Long.. the problem you describe can easily be remedied by charging the battery...but that's besides the point....Tamiyas are no where close in simplicity...Tamiya electronics "are" more similar to a transistor radio...or even a old Television set..... I do feel if you have a reputable repair shop in the area seek advice and perhaps repair there.... as it sounds like your sound module is stealing power... and perhaps has already damaged the main circuit board... but the only way to find that out is to have a technician run a diagnostic with an oscilloscope

What you can attempt to do is check if any wires are crossed...near board solder points

I am probably incorrect in my assumptions.... but similar things have happened with stereo and televisual equipment I've owned ...some were as minor as a scratch on the board...which allowed the current to "jump" to another circuit...others extreme where the board actually cracked allowing the same jump of current ... which shorts and usually as a safety...primary circuits will cut out and shut down the unit

the first trouble shoot would be to disconnect your sound and see what happens ;)

Good Luck Canned

Hi Stu, is it a consistent thing or intermittent? I would say try other batteries, make sure all is charged. Check the battery connections, rx connections, make sure plugs are seated properly. Also if it's possible, try unplugging the motors and seeing if you still get a problem. The whole system will be drawing less current and if it works ok like this it would imply your battery can't supply the necessary current. There are some starters for you at least!

In that case just recalibrate the tank as it instructs on the manual and everything should work out fine.
