is it really worth it ?

Post by mr tank »

hey everyone new to this forum.my name is ryan im 23 live in south wales.right I have some questions about some rc tanks ive been looking at.are they really worth the money ? I have been looking on tankzone at torro tiger 1 tanks.but are the price they are selling for really that much ? I know they come with some added stuff like metal tracks and upgraded tacks and metal hull but are they really worth 400-500 quid ? what can I expect if I spend that kind of money ? thanks for your time guys :).

First welcome to our forum, I have the metal edition TORRO King Tiger. I also built my H/L Tiger into a comparable metal Tiger spending more money in the process.

My point being start with a basic smoke and sound H/L Tiger, find out if your into the Hobby, would enjoy the effort to run the tank, modify, maintain, become involved. Then make a better informed choice about spending so much money on a really nice product.

Compared to Tamiya, once you build, paint and purchase a radio system the Torro cost is less. Well thats my view, hope the information is helpful. Enjoy the forum, read some build threads and check out the vendors sites like Welsh Dragon,Forgebear and Ludwigs.

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you are looking to purchase a BB firing tank then look at ebay first, there are a number of UK based traders selling on there at prices WELL below those quoted on your link with the same spec such as metal tracks and gearboxes. Go to the recomended vendors section on this forum and you will find a guide to who is who in regards as to reliability and price on RC tanks and accessories. As to power from a BB firing tank then it's a no, you will barely dent a coke can at that range even if you hit it. Hope this helps.

Good Evening,
Welcome to the Forum. To start with, Saxondog's advice is as good as gold. We have members on the Forum who buy an inexpensive Heng Long Tiger 1 and slowly make it into the tank of their dreams and educate themselves about the vehicle and the hobby at the same time. We also have members who buy their tanks from manufacturers who offer a more polished product, like Taigen and Torro and Tamiya. Even those tanks lend themselves to modification and most of us find that the fun is in the work we put into the tank. Running or battling it later on is just the icing on the cake. Eventually, everyone winds up with some of both, something built and something bought. Usually, everything modified. ;o) So, in my opinion, they are all worth it. It just depends on what you want to do with the tank. Two bits of information, Tankzone is on our Blacklist of Vendors and you will have better service from one of the vendors listed by Saxondog. Lastly, the BB cannons on these tanks are airsoft types which use plastic ammo. I have not seen one from any manufacturer including the excellent Tokyo Marui Tiger 1, which will shoot through a tin can. They will sting and can put out an eye or raise a welt if misused and all paper targets are in definite danger. ;o) Whatever you get, please post pictures. We like to chat and kick the virtual road wheels around here.
regards,
Painless

Not sure how much this will help but here goes , I have 3 torro tanks 2 king tigers and a KV-2 and to be honest they are my favourites as they just feel a bit more substance to them but I also have some heng long and a tamiya but as been pointed out if your still not sure try to get along to a local meet where I'm sure you will see all different tanks from the makers.i bought one from tankzone and it did have a problem and the after service was really bad so I would not buy from there again but that is just my opinion. The best advice has already been given buy a cheaper heng long and add to it, this way you find the workings on it and it is the style that you want.well I hope that helped

Mr Tank, Welcome to the Forum I would strongly advise you to avoid buying from TANKZONE, I and many others have been ripped off by him, If you scroll down to the BLACKLIST you will see them listed, You should then read the recommended site, You have in South Wales one of the best dealers to be found anywhere, www.welshdragonmodels.com Steve will never cheat you and has a brilliant site or you could go to Dave Forgebear on E-BAY or contact him direct at theallertons@fsmail.net I recommend these two dealers very highly, but when you look through the recommended dealers site you will see many more dealers well worth your consideration. shaun

 hi and welcome , same as all the advice above about a tank but my first tank was a taigen panzer 4 which i still have amongst all my tamiyas and it had metal gearboxes/ tracks and is still rumbling around the garden try to get these on your first tank as they will last longer but the main thing is to enjoy all of the madness of becoming a tanker    :haha:

Greetings Tank.... No it isn't worth it....even if you are only partially as crazy as the bunch of us...it isn't worth it...With that said though...it is fun... and I can only echo what has been said ...one about dealing with TankZone... as it is on the vendors blacklist....two about starting with a less expensive model and working your way up...if you must have something with Metal on it... I would heavily lean towards the Taigen... If you are in the UK... there are much better and friendlier vendors for that brand such as Dave (forgebear)

Feel free to share your feelings about your first purchase... and also share photo's of your adventure in the pursuit of your reality

If you're lucky you may get one that can shoot through a piece of paper at about 5ft. With a bit of modification you may get it to shoot through the paper at 10-15ft. To shoot through a tin can you'll need to use compressed gas and that requires a lot of rebuilding.
