Corleis Adjustable Suspension?
Good Morning,
Quick question. Has anyone used the Corleis Adjustable Suspension in their tank and has a free minute to give a mini review? I am considering it for the KV-2 as I haven't added the big turret yet and am wondering what it will do to the suspension. http://www.rctank.de/Corleis-adjustable ... -KV-1-KV-2

Re: Corleis Adjustable Suspension?
When Schumo first brought this product out; everybody wanted it. Cost was a little high, though. Then, Impact copied Schumo's design and sold it cheaper. Even MORE people now wanted it. From using both types on mine, I found that either one really gives a smooth wheel movement. A lot of people like the fact that the suspension is SO smooth that when the tank either starts out or comes to a stop, it tends to rock back and forth a couple of times. They think that looks cool, but I don't tend to like the way it looks when it does that. For Tiger I's, Panthers, and KT's, I have taken to using the stock Tamiya torsion leafs in the first and last two wheel stations and the Corleis-type units in all of the middle wheel stations. Tends to stop the rocking, but still gives smooth movement to the majority of the wheels. And, it allows buying two sets of this suspension, and using them on three tanks. One other point is that once you get the Corleis type adjusted to your satisfaction, it is important to place a short 2x4 block under the tank when stored. Otherwise, it is going to sag and you'll have to adjust it again, (that's true on the stock torsion leafs as well, but more so with the wound springs in the Corleis type). -Mike

Re: Corleis Adjustable Suspension?
Mike,
Thank you for the tip and the explanation of the suspension. I have been using display blocks to take the weight off of the suspensions on my tanks. I set each one up according to the height of the tank's ground clearance so that the bogies\road wheels\suspension. etc. are relieved of the compression of the tanks' sprung weight. Helps a lot with tanks with light suspension components like the WSN T-34.
warm regards,
Painless

Hi Painless,
how hard is your KV?
since the KV has only 12 wheels is driving circuit at 6kg weight with all offered suspensions because they are too weak for a higher weight.
There are then only two possibilities for you.
You you build a suspension system for my self which I pretty frequently in various forums, instructions, or descriptions've also done and what many have already done so in Germany.
Or I'll build a customized exactly to your vehicle suspension in your hull.
regards Edwin

Again painless you're blazing a trail I'm considering to tread! I've not run my KV-2 yet but the suspension seems fairly soft. It remains to be seen if it's too soft though!

Good Morning, Edwin,
The stock tank from Taigen uses the Asiatam torsion bar suspension which as Tom has noted, is soft for the weight of the tank ( some 9 kilograms ) It gives great response over objects when driven and the tank rocks when the barrel recoils when fired. My only worry is the added weight of the KV-2 turret. I have had the weight off of the suspension for almost a week while out of town and noted last night that it felt stiffer. PM me please with details and we can discuss what it is that you propose.

Re: Corleis Adjustable Suspension?
Good Morning, Tom,
I have done some research on the Asiatam torsion bar suspension and all agree that that it comes a little light in the rear for heavy tanks like Sassgrunt described. Some of the old Grognards in the Hobby have reported success in fixing this by carefully bending the last two suspension arms forward a bit ( tracks and road wheels removed obviously ) with the suspension set up as is. They warn that too heavy a hand will break the torsion bar so I am very leary of this. I will see what Edwin kindly proposes or use the Corleis suspension components to beef up the existing suspension setup.

Can't remember where, but I once read about a someone who was cutting down hacksaw blades to use as torsion bars because his tank was too heavy for the Tam ones.

Good Morning, Woz,
I think I remember that or another one like it. I'm not going to complain about lack of tools, etc. There is that fellow who built the 1/10 metal KV-2 using hand tools so I need to just get off of my kiester and start.

Hi Painless,
I have here as I have built my suspension into a tiger a building report. That works in the same KV only with stronger springs. The link should be able to see without registration.
