KT exhaust cover upgrades

Hi,

Just a quick question about the type of exhaust cover upgrades. I found these 2 types available and see the differences but as I want to keep realism and historical correctness where I can so I need you to tell me which are "more suitable" (were used more?) for my King Tiger. Bare in mind that I'm building a "late" version KT and if that element changed during this tank's service I'd like to know how. So, the contenders are:

and

Thanks for help!

Have a second look at the left cover and it's curvature.

Could be the lighting, the right hand ones look identical. Also schumo parts are made by axels so I'd imagine they're schumo too. If your looking for a super accurate king tiger it might be worth getting a reference book and doing some research.

I would say the second ones are later as used on the jagdtiger.

"Tiger tanks VK45.02 to Tiger II Thomas L Jentz & Hilary L. Doyle"
has quite a comprehensive list of modifications done to the Tiger II but it
doesn't list any changes to the armoured exhaust covers.

All the diagrams have the centre ridge like the ones in the bottom pick.

Hi Mangaroca,

Hmm, an interesting point I hadn't considered before! After looking through my books and some videos of the Saumur King Tiger it appears the Porsche turret King Tigers had the exhaust covers in your second photo, i.e. both exhausts had the cover with the distinct ridge down the centre, and the King Tigers with the production turret had one curved cover on the left exhaust and a ridged cover on the right exhaust. As Billpe says, Jentz and Doyle are the Panzer gurus, the Thomas Jentz book "Tigers At The Front" has a number of photos towards the back showing the production turret version and you can see the chamfer of the ridged type cover is evident on the right side exhaust cover and the curved cover is fitted on the left, so it's a bit of a mystery why their drawings only show the ridged type!. So if it's historical accuracy for a late version I would vote for the covers in your first photo, i.e. one of each, however that would mean I'll have to go and change mine now...... :/ However whatever you decide for your tank is right as it's your tank and your interpretation of it, so as long as you like it that's what counts! And of course the main thing is please treat us to lots of pics!

Happy tanking!
