Modifying Tiger Hatches to Open, How to mnt the on off switc

I just sent away for some opening/operable drivers.radio operator hatches for my HL tiger 1. They are the castings with the small hinges from Immortal. I'm sure may can relate, I have almost dropped the heavy tank on the ground trying to reach the on off power switch and i want to move it now! Probably under either hatch!

I have noticed though, the engine hatches molded onto the rear of the upper hull, in the back look like they could be neatly cut and hinged, would be away from the gears and you'd have lots of room so i'd consider that if someone knows how and could show me some info about that...haven't seen ready made engine covers with hinges so we must be talking scratch built stuff I'm guessing...

You can't help but notice though, the driver's hatch holes are directly over the gearboxes. Don't want to route the switch and wires over the gears . So does that not mean the switch must be set back from the hole somehow, or mounted in the upper hull (which cannot now come all the way off unless you rig a switch disconnect). Magnets, velcro, a small wooden frame mount of some kind? Styrene mount?

What alternatives are there, and where and how do YOU consider the best way to move the switch(es)? I know plenty of you experten have something exactly right for mounting the switch but the search was of little help...so...HELP  !

To make matters more complicated i need to do the same to my king tiger....I hope i'm not going to the well too often but any ideas on that would be wonderful too...

The Taigen metal chassis has the on/off and smoker switches fixed to the lower hull just to the left of the Radio operators hatch as you look at it from the front. This positions the switches away from the gearboxes, and allows them to be operated though the radio ops hatch.

Hope this might be of help

Thanks for the helpful replies youse guys...I was expecting someone had a clever mount of some kind because the mod is so obviously needed and so, probably a lot of people had done it. ..I think I can mane a mount that attaches to the lower hull, the part over the tracks...

Marc,

This is what I did to mine. I have the Taigen lower hull but the upper doesn't have an open gunner's hatch and I was too cheap and too lazy to try to open it.

The mounting nut protects it from catching anything, and I make sure that "On" is when it is push back so there is no accidental turning it off if the track caught something along the way.
