WW2 m26 Pershing Built on HL 1/16th version

Post by greengiant »

I did this M26 Pershing to represent a WW2 version. I installed a HL recoil and IR battle system with high intensity firing stobe, early type metal tracks, opened up the hinged the front hatches, made the barrel lock at the rear work, and so it can be used made the turret rotatable completely around (have to keep track of rotations though because the wires inside can only take about 4 rotations before the turret must be reversed to unwind the wiring), put in 3/1 gears and a metal barrel and periscope guards I found on EBAY cheap. I shortened the front hull blower so it only has 1 intake slot and its bulge starts just slightly higher up on the front gracias then the later Korean war 2 slot version. there is also no radio handset box on the rear The rear turret basket is not something I've seen a picture of but after seeing pictures of what the engineer corps did to some of their Pershing's Its plausible that some tankers could have added something like it. The picture of it firing took me about 10 shots before I managed to trip the camera shutter at the right moment. about the only thing I haven't done yet is to get some metal locking handles for the fender storage boxes. The mantle cover is scratch built using a very thin and pliable material that in the USA is used as a cheap rifle sleeves at auctions and gun shows. The HL recoil mechanism had to have the tab that reaches the barrel up down motor lengthened and stiffened a bit or it would not engage.

Thanks for the compliment. They are just three 14 inch square pieces of plywood about 5/8 inches thick with layer of dark brown tightly woven carpet glued to them and spay painted a dark brown color. Butt them against each other and place trees, or whatever you like buildings on it. Then add whatever kind and color of ground cover you want. You can play around with the thickness of the ground cover and various colors to get effects like a tanks tracks tearing up the grass as it turns by wetting the ground cover by spraying on water until its pretty saturated. The backdrop can be whatever you want. In most of my pictures its just stiff cardboard painted blue. Just remember that the scene you create is only 14 inches deep and with the larger tanks ( M26, Tigers, and All the large German tanks ) it becomes more difficult to fit the whole vehicle in the frame and you will probably have to use the paint program to edit out or retouch anything that shouldn't be in the frame. If your just making a diorama to view that is not a problem. Good luck with it. There are four edited pictures in the fist group. This one is one picture that I had to edit a bit to show a foreground that didn't exist in the origin photo because of the length of the main gun.

GreenGiant,
Another great looking piece of American armor. The detailing and modification build work really makes this one stand out. The great looking diorama base does not hurt either! ;o)

Thanks Wolf. It has all the detail I could put on it except the fender storage bin handles. I think I'll do something showing how I build the dioramas as many people comment on them. It won't be posted in show off, Maybe in general discussion, but the final pictures with the tank in place will. Just finished a panzer 4 J (HL) and need to rearrange my bases to take the finished photos.
