Tamiya KT (Work in Progress)

Post by tigerace007 »

Hi all,

I dont think I have posted a build here before ( im more of an occasional lurker on forums) recently i picked up a used King tiger with all the electronics on Fleabay for £185 plus shipping, it arrived in desparate need of some TLC.
It had a reallly bad paint job and the road wheels were built incorrectly, a few bits were broken and missing.
Having spent a small fortune on various upgrades, i have now pushed towards preliminary painting , i am going for the Ardennes Tiger in Ambush camo.

Any hoo, any comments, critique are welcome.

Cheers,

Stu

Hi Iain,

I used the MiG productions German late war colours (acrylics) the colours look perfect in my opinion , the substitution was, i used the hull primer red for the dark brown and not the late war rottbraun colour.
I am experimemting with pre shading techniques, in the past i tried to paint a tank in one big hit and it never worked well, now i am treating the turret, lower hull and road wheels as a separate entity and taking my time. I am very happy with the results so far and weathering is still to be done.

Cheers,

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately my airbrush suffered a catastrophic failure and i am hunting a new one down to get the job completed. I am toying with the idea of a heavily faded coat of white wash over the camo when complete. This build is as much about experimentation with current weathering techniques as it is getting the KT running reliably and performing well.
Hopefully i can keep you updated as i progress slowly through the build.

Cheers,

Stu

Wow, That looks great -

Thats not Zim, how did you achieve the distressed look on the hull & turret?
