HL lower with FOV upper. All HL inside
Finally got around to taking some pictures of my dry storage mid production m4E3. It has a HL lower a metal FOV upper and some added detailing.
Re: HL lower with FOV upper. All HL inside
Not bad... I made one too

though I didn't have the luxury of the turret..here's my build thread

Got any close ups... interested to see how you dealt with the exhaust

Re: HL lower with FOV upper. All HL inside
I cut the diffuser from the HL upper and attached it in a slightly up position. I had ground out the back of it just enough to open the vents
and added styrene sides to it ( in the pictures I've seen these appear to be correct ) and force the smoke from the exhausts to exit via the
diffuser vents. Make sure to attach these sides only to the diffuser and the metal hull top and not the HL lower hull rear bulkhead.
I looked at your build and it came out really nice. Too bad you didn't get an Aguilar mantle and barrel Like I did for my first 75 mm HL conversion. Sure made things easier. Also I think your transmission cover extends out farther than the tracks . The tracks should extend out slightly farther then the gear covers on each side if the transmission cover. When I did my Mato M4a1 I had to do a lot of fine grinding
and plastic softening in order to correct the same thing.
Sorry that the pictures aren't in order but my mouse went bye bye while I was trying to upload them and using the notebook pad is a pain.
The center one is the Mato that I redid the transmission cover on. Also for some reason when I post this its splitting up my paragraphs
but I think you can still read them.

Hey GreenGiant... I did my exhausts like this.. modeled my tank after the Fisher release

I also did a Mato....Modding the transmission cover was the only way I could adapt the upper to the lower Heng Long Hull

Under Primer

finished

My exhausts for that variant

Shermans are a challenge to say the least...but they are awful fun to do

Yea since the HL hull has so many possibilities its about time all their variants are built.
Are you sure the fisher didn't just have the diffusers folded up out the way or was that a variant ?

Yup ... as far as the Fisher went... there was not way the defuser would fit... check my build thread... I have photos of the real tank there

It looks to me like there is an exhaust deflector that your picture shows in its lowered position as the tank is going up the hill. It obviously is not hinged in the rear ( your model still has those 4 hinge locations but they are not on the photo ) there must have been a swinging cradle that held the mostly flat deflector at its outer edges and let it be rotated down from above the exhaust pipes to a position below .
Now I'm going to have to spend a lot of time trying to find a picture of one showing it as your picture is the only one I've seen of it. Since your picture seems to be a proving ground photo maybe it was not used in production models although without it the tank running thru tall grass would be likely to leave a flaming path behind it.

I found a picture of a fisher made tank with the type of exhaust you modeled. The deflector is in the down position and you can see the hole that the exhaust exited from.
It is labeled as a Fisher m4A2

LOL yeah got a similar view...
But take a look at the photo you just put up... and take a look at this

The deflector is for a different variant of the Fisher

But that's how it goes with Shermans... found you never really know... as field mods played well into the presentation of the tank... I even found some authentic footage... when compared to still photos... a lot of the Shermans didn't have periscope guards... but in most of the still photos.. almost all of them do
I can kind of understand why sooooo many modellers love doing Shermans..after I did mine....the research is mind boggling ... the variants numerous ...chances of getting one spot on perfect.. almost impossible

They are great...and I've developed a soft spot for them

Re: HL lower with FOV upper. All HL inside
You must look at the two pictures yours and mine that show the whole tank. They are both of the same type and wet storage. Fisher produced 4614 m4a2s, 2994 m4a2's with wet storage, 3071 m4a3's with wet storage and 75 mm gun 525 with wet storage and 76mm gun. In your final picture you can see the diffuser above the exhaust in its stowed position blocking the view of the top edge of the exhaust system, your showing a post ww2 model with the conduit and large hole that a field phone was mounted to. Using the dry storage FOV upper I think you may have made a model of the M4 that never existed as I have yet to find a ww2 Photo that matches your build. But I got a new mouse today so I'll keep on looking.
