I got this idea from another RC forum;
have just made an effective turret rotation speed controller from an old cheap servo.
What i did was to dismantle the servo and discard the gears and motor. I then soldered a connector to the motor wires and then connected the servo's receiver lead to my receiver and then connected the turret motor to the connector I had fitted to the motor wires. When powered up the motor will rotate so the next thing to do is to adjust the servo's pot so the motor ceases to rotate and you should now have fully proportional control of the turret in both directions. What i then did was to refit the circuit board and pot back into the servo case (it makes a neat enclosure) and that was it - it works well, One free speed controller.

Cup,
Sounds like a great tip and trick! How about some pics for the textually illiterate such as myself? ;o)

Sorry Painless
I forgot to take any photos while i was butchering the servo - my bad. Going to be doing another one soon for grandson's bulldog so will take some photos and post them when I do that one. It really is an easy and quick conversion though - it took a total of about 15 minutes.

Is this what you did

but instead of using servo motor you connected to the turret motor?
Ian.

Yes Sir - except that i have kept the pot instead of using the 2.2K resistors (mostly because I did not have any 2.2K resistors to hand). i just hooked up a motor and adjusted the pot until it ceased rotating in order to establish neutral position.Tankbear wrote:Is this what you did

cupoftea,
Pictures would be great...... Not to stray off topic, but I have also programmed one of the pots on my radio to do turret rotation with the stock HL set-up.
