heng long leopard 2a6 to leopard 2a7+

Post by huskydog »

Well i am just starting my project on turning the standard henglong leopard2a6 into a leopard 2a7+. researching this project shows lots of subtle changes between what appears to be different build states. But anyway its now under way. i have purchased a different set of drive motors along with some different pinion gear sizes to get up to a scale speed.
I have got the drive gears/idlers and metal rubber tracks on and tested(metal rubber road wheel set on its way) laser sighting to be fitted and experiments being done to radically improve bb power and accuracy.
Turret drive motor updated already and now doing a much better job of turning the turret at a good speed.one rpm in 10 secs which isnt bad. amber micro leds to be fitted into hull.
just debating whether to make parts from aluminium or plastic? will debate fitting of new rc controller with another control board.
anyway its now under way and i will post pictures as it comes along. any advice will be appreciated lol.

new motors fitted with 12t pinion gears, appears to be almost twice as quick as original. will check scale speed with sat nav later today. have fitted electric cooling fan to controller board clarke board to be fitted at a later date.

well the sat nav said 4.8 mph on its test run up the path and back. will carry out a longer run very soon as that should prove more accurate. speed looks about right for video footage of the real ones on the net. although scale speed looks to be 2.8miles an hour as its 1/16th of 45mph but that looks slow?
anyone fitted an electronic parking brake to a 1/16 tank? as geared if it is on a steep slope the tank will roll forward or backward if not under power.
I will get some pictures on here very soon just been having problems with my pc. the motors I used came from rs components. they are 380's with a no load speed of about 26000. load speed of about 20000rpm.
had to extend all the wiring to all the leads to allow me to move the control board to the front as it now has a fan fitted and wont go where it was mounted(down the side of the battery).fingers crossed pictures to follow later.lol

here are two pictures of the start of the project. tracks fitted for testing and fan attached to speed controller. cables have been extended again since these pictures. tracks run fine on the standard plastic sprockets wheels by the way.

well been having a look at the gun today. took it out of the turret as frankly its completely random how it fires, one shoot will travel 3ft then the next 30ft then 10ft etc.
well to my surprise with the barrel/mech out of the turret every shot 30ft plus. put it back into the tank and its back to random again.
I can only think something is distorting when assembled. I will have another experiment tomorrow.

Still waiting for pictures.

The easiest way to post pictures is to upload them to tinypic. Just go to tinypic and follow the onscreen instructions, then when it's uploaded copy the URL they give you under 'IMG code for forums & message boards' and paste that link in your post.
