i just bought a full option Tamiya tank and need a radio control for it. I know nothing about rc things and need help to get a inexpensive controller for it. does anybody have any recommendations of what to get and what I will need . thanks

Hi there at our M.A.D monthly club meets in Hyde Manchester our members mostly use Planet T5 2.4ghz handsets
I run all my tamiya tanks with planet T5 as they have manual trim tabs that the tamiya DMD&MFU are designed to work with! They are 4 Chanel and come with a receiver !
You can also bind as many receivers as you want to one handset !

You can find them on ebay around the £50 mark!
You will also need a spring kit for the left hand throttle stick available for £5

There are cheaper options out there but these handset work great! You can even fit fire buttons

I would avoid any handset with digital trim tabs! Unless it's a programable handset!

I find this reply very interesting as I am also looking for a system for my three tamiya tanks, (King Tiger, Leopard 2A6 and JS2)
Are you saying that I can get three receivers then just one handset will control all three models individually, using the Planet T5 with out loss of any function?

Hi Keith yes that correct with the new 2.4ghz transmitters you can use many receivers with one transmitter (handset) the t5 is great for tanks i use a spectrum 7 channel set which is digital trim and they can be a bugger to set up.. but once your used to it its great and i have 15 different models on my transmitter. . I can drive one out on to the battle field then change the model over and drive it and swap back or drive another

Just to point out with the Planet if more than one tank is switched on the controller will control them all at same time. i.e. it cannot switch between tanks from the controller like the Spektrum which has preset memory.

I use a spektrum dx5 on about 15 vehicles but as ian said only switch one on at a time my brother learnt that when he drove his pershing forwards and his sherman ran off the table

If you get a 6 channel or more controller that is programable you can get the Tamiya tank and some others systems to fire from the switch's on the handset.

You can allso fit push to make buttons on the handset that will fire the main gun and Mg without touching the trim tabs
