Zimmerit

Post by Otto330 »

Hi,
New to the site. Has anyone here had any experience using Vinyl Zimmerit (Taigen) ? I have done Zimmerit on 1/35 scale German armour and have used putty and the burn method, but old age has set in and don't think I have the patience to do it on 1/16 scale. It will go on a H.L. Tiger 1 but the set I saw looks like its for the later model Tiger, will it fit the H.L. Tiger?
Thanks Tim

Hi Tim,

The Taigen zim will fit the HL tiger no problem. Here is a pic of mine:

They are a little thick but it is not as flaky as Atak's zim. You do need to do a lot of work on the edges because of the thickness. The good thing is that you can get them for very cheap and if it doesn't work out it is no big deal. The only piece I find that doesn't fit very well is the mantlet, and it is a little tricky to fit them around the hatches/piston port on the side of the turret.

It comes with the whole back piece so if you are doing a late version without the exhaust filters it is not a problem.

Hey Tim,

did you have a look at Artistic Hobbies? They have Zim packages and what I like is the solid sheets for boo boos! LOL! I think they are a little pricey but hey, shipping will be cheap in the states

a bit late otto but welsh dragon models sell them quite cheap.
a word of advice though, go easy on the glue & try to spread it evenly
& before you ask, i used the glue out of a bicycle puncture repair kit.
cheers

Recieved the set of vinyl Zimmerit...Looks ok, dry fit the pieces to the Tiger ! Seem to fit good except the turret sides. Vision ports don't line up.Other than that looks like it will work fine..Again thanks for your responses and input on this subject..

I fitted my set of vinyl zim to my tiger with Super Glue, works well and covers joint lines well too. Just do a little at a time, glue a small area let it dry, pull it down for the next area, glue, wait, repeat. If you get Super Glue on you fingers just use acetone to clean it off.
