Panzer IV rear idler adjuster mods

Post by tankman »

Hi Guy's just thought I would share my Panzer IV idler adjustment mods with you. Due to my tracks popping off a lot I thought I needed an adjuster for the rear idler wheel. Went online and found 1 company offering an upgrade for the Pzr IV. had a look at the price an thought I can do that. Took a look at the rear end of the tank and found to my delight the end caps come off  the moulded track adjustment parts. The parts just needed to be prised off lucky for me not much glue holding them on. Removed the idler wheel and there is a hole all the way through. Managed to find 2 machine screws from an old PC that fitted through and gave me a bit of overhang. Then I managed to source a bit of scrap alloy and cut out 2 short lengths and rounded the ends. Drilled out a hole for the screw to fit through, had to countr sink this to allow the head of the screw to fit flush and not snag the idler wheel. then drilled a hole for the idler wheel to screw into. Had to modify this later on and fit a small screw to lock the idler wheel in. Then the scary bit I cut off the plastic mouldings that extended out past the body of the tank. Lucky for me the aloy I used for the mounting was the same thickeness as the plastic I cut off.  Take a look at the atachements for a guide to this simple upgrade. Also it drops the idler down a touch which makes the tank look more like the real thing and now the tracks can be tensioned to suit. All the best for now

Hi Pete you know who to ask if you need a lenght of alloy to. As to the barrel I am just attempting mine now. Bought the barrel from T zone in the UK very nice quality  but what a monster to fit. It's a one pice unit and it looks like you have to use the original air soft barrel to mount it through and from what I can see it going to take some doing. Wish I had bought the two pice one now.  >:(. All the best for now
