asiatam side skirts?

hiya lads, new here and about to start build on a stug 3 G, It will be for running about house and garden, with maybe the wifes odd bunny near by,i have got some parts alrady , but would like to know how good the asiatam side skirts are?? any good? fit ok? can hold up to a bump? thanks glen. also I have seen so far on here some chaps make there own, any sizes etc plans about?

Asiatam is a very good make so the parts should be excellent. Who is the Vendor.. Welsh Dragon Models ??... If so then I think that you are very safe to buy them... He only sells good items

You Can make the parts yourself... but the hardest part is the mounting brackets.. The side plates are much easier because a lot were made in the field either from scratch or to replace plates that fell off or were damaged... so the sizes and design does actually vary quite a bit. Plasticard or a very light aluminium are the two most commonly used materials.

I fitted a set to my Stug (This is the metal ones you are talking about right ?). The mounts are a little finicky to put on the chassis but they come with little bolts to actually screw onto the hull. The plates are made such that you can actually just hang them on like the real thing. I never had them loose and had fitted them twice, one by myself and another time by dgsselkirk but both time we fixed/glued it.

It also has the Waffel pattern zim from Atak. I bought it from WDM as well.

Hi Michael, yep the metal ones, just wanted to know if they can take trips arounf the garden etc, and not too fragile, also I see on your stug you have both lights??? I am looking into this , bit confussed should I take one off or have 2 ? lovely stug , nice paintwork,

glenny25, they will definitely be able to take trips around the garden. If you hang them loose they might come off, but they won't break. The rails, the mounts and the panels themselves are all pretty solid. Can't say the same with the plastic ones (I have the plastic ones for the Panzer IV).

Just reading the other post from Tanks....... Just make the Notak work and you are good ! The one from WDM is not very bright though as it is a very very small LED but I guess Notak is not suppose to be bright.....

If you can just buy the mounting brackets.... you could look at making your own 'skirts' like this rather poor photo ( of a StuG IV ) .... They are overlapping and only attached in the middle. The skirts are designed to pivot around the central mount and so do not get dislodged in the 'field' when you go close to obstacles.... they also protect the drive sprockets better than the standard skirts.

I have just read a review on the WDM site about the side skirts criticizing the 'dimensions' !
......and I have to say that in the photos on the WDM site they do look like they stick out a bit far from the side of the StuG compared to WW2 photos... .... what do you guys think ??

You are absolutely right though, they do come out quite a bit and it is very difficult to make it tight to the body because of the mount. My Stug is probably as tight as you can get them to the chassis without breaking either the mount (Which you can't really) or some major mod on the chassis (which you don't want to do). If you follow the instructions the skirt looks like wings..........

I am okay with the size though......
