Yet another newbie tankeneer!

Post by UkJonathan »

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself to this great forum, and I'm not trying to butter you up it is a great forum going by all the info and help I've read. I can't stop coming on since I joined and browsing and seeing some excellent tanks. Well better start introducing myself, I'm Jonathan and just retired early well 60 is that not old enough. Anyway I have been thinking of buying a scale tank for quite awhile, but things got in the way as they do. So a friend bought me one and even though I really do appreciate their kindness I think they fell foul and bought me the basic tiger 1. I love this tank model and they said they were going to buy me the one with sound and smoke but they thought it may be a bit childish not thinking really and not knowing we love them that do many things.

So I read, quite a bit of bad things about the main board and not being able to upgrade unless you changed it. Anyway I do not want to say anything to my friends so in a mad fit I ordered another today from a shop you recomend on here with sound and smoke with the new tx 18 I think it is. So I know will have the start of a battalion. Sorry for rattling on but feel like 6 again and not sixty

Hi johnathan & welcome to the forum.
The good news is , you always need a tank to play with & another to tinker with.
The bad news is, two tanks will multiply like rabbits unless you have amazing discipline. :haha:
Great choice on the tiger by the way as there is tons of upgrades available, with loads of builds on here.
& there's far too many Sherman's creeping in here! (lock & load) ;)
Cheers

Welcome Jonathan, The Tiger is a great starting place, lots you can do to one. Having two you could pick different periods in the production history and have 2 quite different Tigers. I have an Early tiger and a mid to late tiger.

I reckon this site is good for basic tiger details.

The model changes section is handy, it references all the spec changes as they were introduced month by month. Lots of great pics of Tigers on there too.

Have fun with your tanks.

Welcome Jonathan...you have stumbled upon one of the best forums on the net... and a grand bunch of guys who like butter :haha:

Your normal TIGER can be upgraded in one swoop...
This is a package available through MATOMART/ RC-DYNASTY

http://www.matomart.com/prodview.php?p=761

A pretty reasonable conversion comes with a high intensity flash unit... and IR unit ... I'm not sure what the conversion is ... but about 60 US + ship

Hi guys,
Thank you all for a very warm welcome and also to Paul, & Alpha for the great information really appreciate that. I'm sure I'm going to ask some silly questions so please be gentle. Even though I have always loved tanks and especially their deep throat sounds I know nothing at all really about them. I had looked into trying to find out if the basic tiger could be updated and would love to try but does this involve really accurate soldering? Reason I ask is I can solder, but I am in the first stages of Parkinson's so I'm told and drop things sometimes and don't have a steady hands anymore, slight to rough tremors at times haa and I tried the other day to solder two simple wires together and yes I had two decent burns after trying and gave up in case I set something on fire haa. This is why I felt dissociated a bit at the first tiger because I knew I don't think I could upgrade it if it needed accurate soldering.anyway the upgrade kit is fantastic and a well worth the price. If I thought I could do it I would order it. Anyway enough of my moans don't want to dampen things on my first post so sorry for that. Can't wait until my sound one arrives hopefully tomorrow. Once again a really big thanx to one and all

I have already ordered some bits from welsh dragon too, so they may be here tomorrow.

Ps be ready when I ask the silly questions!
